Couple weeks ago my I rearranged my zoas. For the next week my ked reds would not open. The tops of the closed polyps had green film on them. After a few days I decided to try what I had on hand to help. So I dipped them in furan 2 two days in a row.two polyps opened. On the third day I did furan two then a quick iodine dip. more and more opened back up. Finally they all were open. So happy. (Bottom left).
A day or two later my red hornets (top middle just under the green/yellows) refused to open. After a couple days I noticed the same slight lime green film on the top of the polyps. So I started the same process. The hornets however declined very fast. And I notice my flame angel, yellow tang, and watchman gobies picking at them. What was a 30+ healthy colony is now about 10 sorry, skinny little closed polyps. I'm afraid my reds are a gonner.
Yesterday my favorite teal zoas (far right) were not open. I would be very upset to lose them. No one else has them, I don't know what they are. And teal is my favorite color. I can't lose them!
All the other zoas (side by side) seem fine. The fish only pick on the closed colonies. I believe it is whatever I s on them that the fish are after. Any ideas????
The 2nd pic is when the keds started to recover. Ill get updated day pics later today.

Nice collection. Have you tried a round of chemiclean? It worked for me in the past with a similar issue. I'm playing with using peroxide for the same thing right now.

Yep, the red slime remover. It's an antibiotic and it helped me when I almost lost my entire tank of zoas. I treated the whole tank. I just used the same procedure that's on the box.

I started trying peroxide dosing yesterday and it seems to be having some positive effects. Way too early to say for sure though. That said, when I dose the peroxide it really irks my zoas.

Ill give It a shot. Cant hurt :-)

Thanks. The red hornets were awsome. But replaceable. I will cry if I lose the teals.

So I dipped in chemi for 15 mins. Then furan for 10 and iodine for 10. There were 7 skinny hornet polyps left. Came home from work and they are all gone. Clean frag rock. :-(
My rastahs are closed and my wife says my yellow tang was eating zoas!!! I've seen all 3 fish (flame, yellow tang, and watchman) picking at them. But obviously the 7 polyps are completly missing in 5 hours. And 3 days ago there were closer to 25-30 polyps. I'm thinkin I'm in trouble. Question is, is it one or more of the 3 that decided to eat zoas at once? My wife says the tang defanitly ate some. :-( what to do.
This is my third flame and I finally have one that's thriving. My favorite fish.
The tang is so bright! And yellow is so uncommon. :-(
Looking up this issue both these fish are known to start eating all types of coral. Ughhhhhh

They may have just gone after them because they were dead. I don't know tangs well though.

I personally would not have done three different dips on a healthy colony, let alone a sick one. If you have a stressed colony, I know the urge to hit them with everything you can but you have to go slowly. Each dip stresses them and they need time to rest.

I just thought since the two dips worked on the keds.... but yeah.

My wife said she saw the tang picking on the rastahs. Which were oopen and fine when I left. And closed when I got home.

Man wiz that blows nothing else was done but moved them around mine get finicky if I move them too much I too had them dropping like flies but water change after 2 st chemiclean and things began turning don't lose the teals good luck bro

Yeah. Only moved them once. :-( really hope its not my flame. I could live with losing the tang. But my flame is mu favorite. :-(

Had a file fish eat almost all mine overnight never touched aptasia though stupid fish

Last effort to keep my fish. Chemi cleaned the whole system. Today my teals are still not open but are not declining either. The rastahs and the rest are open and well. Hope it was something on my hornets that I need to replace now!. but so far so good with the fish. :-)
