Hey i have a 30 gallon stable reef with metal halides and i recently bought a 150 dollar space juice zoanthid from world wide corals. I have had t
It for a few weeks now and it was doing great. Now it looks horrible and im very distressed and confused especially cause everything else in the tank is doing great, lps, mushrooms, softies, 5 + different zoas all doing great with huge colonies and even my sps look fantastic. Only livestock are 2 clowns, 2 peppermint shrimp, and a decorator crab.

It's hard to say. Did you put the frag in putty? It might not like the spot it's in. One reason we never spent a lot on polyps, some would flourish while others melted in weeks. Hopefully it turns around for you. It doesn't look like a goner so hopefully a little it will come around. Keep an eye on the peppermint shrimp. Never had them go after zoas but I'd keep an eye out.

Ok i had him in that spot a while and he was great. One morning i woke up and he fell down into the sand and looked like that. So i figured
would be fine to glue him up there.

Saying thanks is plenty. One of many things I love about this hobby is being able to help others. Hope to see an updated pic with some new heads growing in.

As do i it kinda looks like something ate him. Maybe a star fish

FWIW- I notice the small polyps at the base of yours and mine sometimes do this when they are spreading like that. Mine will half close for a couple few days and then I'll have full size new ones.

Especially when first glued to a rock. It's almost as if I have disrupted their plan to spread and they need to adjust to the new position. I know this has zero science behind it, but I have observed this in my aquarium.

Zoas are so tricky. There really seems to be no way to tell from one day to the next how they are going to do. I have about 15 different types, and I'm always trying to figure out why one kind isn't happy or is melting, while the one next to it is growing like a weed.

Interesting, its possible because it that little polyp looks fine and is just starting to open up.
