So I had my first zoa frag in my tank some would say too soon but it was 5 days after adding water. It looked like my profile pic and after going through the cycle and a bit of ammonia spike etc I was left with the larger one with a deformed skirt but also this colour shift. I'm not bothered about the skirt its healthy, it eats if it goes back to normal than great but the tanks has been stable for some time now and it hasn't got any worse. So it was a small casualty and also a good indicator for me that the tank is good to go now. Thought I would share the colour change im curious to whether it will get the green mouth back or not but it looks a lot darker than before I love it

It may morph back. I suppose it depends on why it morphed in the first place.

I have green zoas I collect in the Florida Keys and in my tank they stay green unless I give them really high PAR light. Then they morph to a sky blue. And they do morph back in lower light.

Looks like a gobstopper. Batch I have in my tank lost their green middle disc a few weeks after I got the initial frag. Hasn't come back regardless of lighting but the red intensified. Colony is now the size of a grape fruit and I can't frag them fast enough.

I have no idea why they lose the green disc. All mine have done it.

That red macro algae on the base of the frag might be a problem. It will compete with the zoa for nutrients. Gobstoppers are tough and will likely just try to grow taller than it, but they might not grow underneath.

:( I love the red algae I do turn off the pumps and give them a light dusting of reef roids they seem to take it all in. I will definitely keep an eye on it though. They have always kinda looked like they are reaching maybe I should raise the rock up and test it under more light.

Edit: just checked and yea they definitely look a lot like the gobstoppers thanks I never knew

The red algae is a keeper. Just not sure how they will grow over it.

Gobbies should stretch just a bit towards light and they like some nitrate. They love roids and if your turn your pumps off will gobble up brine shrimp dropped on them.

When they start growing in big balls they are awesome filter feeders and water polishers. A lot of SPS keepers will have them for this reason.

I've stopped feeding mine for obvious reasons. :-)
