Could be a feeding response, noticed this only in zoas when feeding the tank.
I fed reefroids last night to see if it would stop. No luck

Them making an umbrella shape can also mean that they’re p¡ssed off.

My utter chaos zoas we’re like that for awhile then I got annoyed with them looking ugly so I put them on my frag rack. Two weeks later they were back to normal. Now they’re in higher lighting and doing fine.

Aight. Will try more light.

I never said they need more light. I was implying they might not like their spot.
When most of my zoas are doing it and have never moved in 6 months then i don't think its the spot. Only thing that has changed is lighting moving up 2 inches. My tank is a frag tank. The zoas all sit at the same level on eggcrate and i would say two thirds are doing it but not as bad.

Like mentioned, a response from the food and it appears it's just the zoas. I'd give it time, they don't look to bad.
Aight. Will see what happens

Following to see if anyone has thoughts on this, last night when checking my tank before bed some of my zoas where doing this too.

Zoas do this at night time when they’re ready for the lights to go out. That’s pretty normal as well.

My zoas and favias inflate and do that when I do the weekly water change (15%). I think it´s because they like some of the new elements they get.

My zoas do this on occasion as well. I've noticed it more when I spot feed other corals nearby. I don't think its much of an issue because they don't look like a nipple for long but it does happen. If I were you, I would wait it out. These are animals after all, let them figure it out.
