Hey all, I was hoping for some insight. I will be getting my first corals shipped in the morning (excited!).

However, this colony is attached to a small rock. Given the amount of Zoas and shrooms on the rock, it isn't really feasible for me to remove them from the rock.

What I am afraid of is dipping in some chemical, and the rock holding on to it. I currently have access to Bayer and potentially lugols.

Edit: I should mention that I do not currently have coral capable lights on my QT.

Any suggestions?

Always Dip.

Dip it or Risk it?

Not Worht It.

Dip it for Sure.

Use Bayer!

I would definitely dip in something. If you're worried about the Bayer, do a few RODI water dips afterwards to help flush it out of your rock.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

I did the Bayer dip, followed by 2 soaks in fresh SW, followed by a soak in tank water and a final soak in RO/DI. Polyps started to open after an hour. Lots of worms, detritus, and even a tiny crab. All dead. :)

This evening they look like this. It's actually more of a diverse collection than you can tell from the crappy pics.

Next step, get a fragging kit, break up the different types and get as mush of the coral skeleton off as possible.

Really happy.
