Zoa/Paly frag tank suggestions.

Hey, I fell in love with corals again but mostly zoanthids/palys when i went to RAP this year. I was wanting to start growing out my current zoas i have and frag them. What would you guy's suggest for a good grow out frag tank for zoas/palys? Looking for one that won't break the bank, be between 20g-40g and has an overflow for a sump. Thanks in advance!
 
There are some nice 30-60 gallon flat tanks that come with a sump and overflow. With Black Friday prices

Deep blue 22g aio is great
 
Ive been running a Deep Blue 30g, but now wish I went with a 60g! You run out of room quickly when you get bit by the zoa bug. A simple sump underneath with some liverock and no skimmer. I was running a Reefbreeders LED, but recently swithched to a Radion XR15 Pro flanked by 2 T5's. (still trying to dial in the right Radion settings/intensity so I get some better growth) Some snails, a yellow corris wrasse and maybe an algae blenny. I started with acrylic frag racks, but for some reason kept having algae issues, switched to black egg crate, and the algae disappeared. Keep it simple

Thanks for the helpful info. Running no skimmer good with fish in the frag tank help give the zoas more nutrients? Do you have a refugium in the sump?

You know where i can find a 22g deep blie aio?
 
Yes, I do have a fuge section in the sump with some chaeto. Nutrients dont get outa hand unless you feed/overfeed the fish. Let your tank mature a while before adding the fish so the wrasse and algae eater will have a decent natural food supply and hopefully won't be dependant on you feeding them all the time. I think Deep Blues smallest frag tank is a 30g. We are fortunate to have a Deep Blue tank dealer in our area.

I might see if one of my fish stores can order one. What lighting you run on your zoas?
 
I was running Reefbreeders Photons(V1) with a T5 (Blue +) on each side, but recently decided to get a "Big Boys" light and got a Radion XR15Pro to replace the Reefbreeders. Apparently I am not a "BigBoy" yet because I am still trying to find a lighting program/schedule that is ideal for my zoas/palys. Most of the "black box" LEDs will work just fine, but the newer Reefbreeders Photon V2s and the SB Reeflights are pretty nice. And you definately cannot go wrong with T5s......those are surely proven to grow zoas. Metal Halides , I hear are pretty awesome too, I just have no personal exerience with them.

Might get some sb reeflights. What gave you the most color pop from everything you have used for taking pics?

Regarding the zoanthids and color pop......the LEDs with no whites gave a lot of color pop. But, pictures can be more difficult with all the blue light. Some of the newer cell phones take great pics and there are orange gel filters that clip on to the phone that give great results. Otherwise, cameras that allow you to shoot in "raw" mode and adjust the white balance are the way to go. Further edititing of the image is required, but can give a more true representation of the colors we see with our eyes.

Once you have a few nice ones you can really start getting busy selling and trading and you end up needing more space than you think. Great post........my 30g is busting at the seams with frags so the 60g is what I am upgrading to for my frag tank. I only wish they made an 80g version (12"deep). I have the 80g for my display tank.

Currently running a half broken Maxspect Razer. I need to upgrade sooner than later, the white channel is broken on one side.. but its growing zoas like crazy, its more for me than the corals, they dont seem to mind growing under all blues.
