Zoas can live in some tanks most people would consider pretty inhospitable...since they're soft corals the only thing you really need is detectable phosphate and nitrate...they can be plenty high and the zoas wouldn't care.

You should practice controlling your parameters though because down the road you'll almost certainly want LPS or SPS eventually so why bot start preparing?

Yes but stability in the right range for each parameter needs to be achieved, not only stability.
