Hi everyone, I have this zoa colony that hasn’t been looking to great the last month or so. I’ve kinda waited to see if they would get better on their own but their health hasn’t gotten any better. I've had these zoas for over 2 years and they have their ups and downs but many polyps have died this time around. This is a morning shot, just opened up the blinds. What do you guys think this looks like?

Have you tried dipping them to see if any pests fall off?

Actually I have not. That's a good suggestion. I don't believe these Zoas have ever been dipped. I will give that a try in the next few days. Also, It just dawned on me that maybe the Ricordea's could be stinging them. Do you think that could be a possibility? There's about 10 Ricordea clustered up right above it.

It looks like zoa pox.

You'll need to treat it with furan 2.

You'll also want to kill off those vermatid snails. They agitate zoanthids as well.

Thanks for reply. I think I have one of the furan's. I need to double check which one. I was thinking it was zoa pox, kinda wanted to get a consensus on here.

Also, had no idea those snails were there, thank for pointing it out. I have some work to do.

pox,,watch temp swings,,since i put a Ranco controller on my heaters and a space heater in the room during the winter,,have not had this issue any more..
Knock on wood.

Oh that’s crazy. Yea my temp has been pretty consistent but I know my top off is freezing. And no ato, so I usually dump like 1/2 gallon all at once.

When treating with furan, do you have to take the specific frags out of the tank, or can you treat the whole tank without damage to other livestock?

Good question, I believe it's reef safe. I used it once in Fish only tank. My thing with this treatment is I think your tank water turns green. Then you have to do a water change and add carbon to get it out.

I did look up directions for it I dont remember exactly, but I think you have to dose and waterchange two or three times. I guess if you need to, you do it.

I have not tested to see if furan 2 is relatively reef safe by dumping it into my systems so I wouldn't know. It will turn your tank water yellow. However, it's pretty gentle on zoas/palys. I sometimes leave it for more than 30 minutes in the treatment baths.

Furan 2 treatments are to be done in a separate container OUTSIDE OF THE AQUARIUM..
do a search on the internet on how to do a Furan 2 dip before doing anything .
ÑEVER add Furan 2 to the display tank ..

NEVER ADD FURAN 2 TO A DISPLAY TANK..
NEVER !!!
always do it in a separate container with salt water ..
Search on the net on how to do it and DO NOT GET IT ON YOURS HANDS..

Wonder why the manufacturer says to do waterchanges. I do know I would rats much rather treat something outside of the aquarium if possible

Do the treatments OUTSIDE of display tank and use saltwater in the SEPARATE container ..
Search on the net and get familiar on how to the Furan 2 dip zoanthids

I was thinking that too. My display is doing good right and did not want to mess with bio load
