I have 2 types of zoas currently, both on small rock on frag plugs. One is having algae issues so not opening much but I’ll figure that out.

my question is, do I need to move these off the sandbed to where they can grow on a rock?

If they aren't growing on the sandbed and seems a bit stretched out as if it was trying to receive more light then i would move them up. otherwise they should do fine on the sandbed. If they overgrow the plug I would move them to the rocks

In some cases depending on the variety I will move zoas up and down on various frag racks until I find the sweet spot for the particular zoa. I agree with shimppsacc on moving to rocks once the plug is covered. You may also just cut off frag stem and add to larger frag disc which will give a raised look and make for easy fragging later.

I have a group of zoas that came on what looks like a bone. Should I place them on a rock or just on the sand. I’ll try to show a pic
