zoa pox

nice....now how do I get rid of them? I got some new zoos from a vendor about a week or two ago and I just noticed it.

I've only had the pox a couple of times, but haven't lost much when I had them. It seems like when I've had issues, the temperature in the tank got high a little higher than normal for a few days, they zoas were right on top of each other, or, I hadn't done a water change in a while. This apparently hasn't worked for others, but I've been able to get mine under control with reducing the water temp and increasing water changes for a while. I've never tried dips for pox.

I'm kinda screwed. All my zoos are on huge rocks, I can't dismantle the whole tank. I just did a water change on Sunday, do you think if I lower the temp it would help any? or can you treat the whole tank without hurting anything else?

It can't hurt (within a certain range). Has it been running any hotter or cooler than normal? Any other new potential stressors (new chemicals, new lights, etc.)? I'd start with some (well mixed-should always mix for at least 24 hours before using) water changes and see what that does for you. Most that I've talked to said that dips didn't do anything for them. My 'successes' may have been due to some other thing, but I did the same thing each time I had the pox.

I hear scraping them off will work too. But that's a lot of work and they will appear wilted once you scrape them off.

Kris - That sucks, I think I know where you got the zoas and was hoping that you would not get zoa pox.

Ill see you tomorrow and we will talk over some ways to get rid of them. They are not horrible but can be difficult to get rid of.

I haven't done anything new such as dosing or lighting. I'm in the process of getting another K4 powerhead. I have 2 smaller powerheads taking the place of the one that shorted out. Hopefully the increased flow will help.
