So recently I have been having a few problems with some of my polyps and so I took a few pictures and thought maybe someone here might have an idea.

This frag had one polyp randomly appear to deflate and turn clear, almost looking like a melted crayon. It tore when I was examining it for pests. The frag has been in my system for 18 months, and in that time has put on one polyp.

I found this guy on a rock and I had forgotten I had him, so Im not sure how long its been like this. No more than three weeks though. Its been in my system for about a year now.

And my SC Ultimate Chaos decided to stay closed up for a two weeks. The skirt pokes out of the opening most of the time, and the baby polyp stays open. I did see what might be zoa pox on the polyp so I thought Id take a picture. Its been in my system since August if I remember correctly.

But in good news, my GB Ravers have turned into a sweet colony. Here is just a growth shot of the polyps, they closed up when my wife picked them up.

I have experienced this once. The solution was more flow in my case. What type of flow are these getting?

The crusty frag appears to have a hardened scab over the polyps which isnt acting the fungal infections Ive seen before.

I might try more flow for the crusty ones but Im not sure thats the issue as I hadnt changed anything about their placement or flow for months. I think that the orange envy polyp that deflated might be due to a damaged polyp, as the rest of the polyps look great.

The ultimate chaos frag that is closed is the most worrying, as I love that guy and there appears to be nothing wrong other than it wont open.

Salinity is the only thing I regularly check and its 1.025-6 when ever I check it with a refractometer.

Alk important, temp too. What temp are you running? My experiences with zoas they don't like high salinity, they like 1.024-025 in my opinion

Temp is 75.9-76 in the winter time, 79-81 in the summer. I havent done an alk measurement in a while as I have tons of polyps and only one chalice right now, so frequent water changes handle all my needs.

if i was you i will rinse them in revive ( it might be an intruder eating zoos ) and after that... high flow , or some red slime will bother the polyps .....that happend to me

I strongly suggest testing all, but especially ALK. My experiences zoas don't like high temp. 78 in my opinion, 76 is low end of temp range

...+1 on dipping. It can't hurt and just might help

What is the ALK of a fresh batch of saltwater? What salt do you use? Some salt mixes can be pretty high

I have had this happen to me. reasons where all different, 1, check at night for a zoa predators including Amphipods, i had them attacking my zoas at night and making them mad so they wouldnt open. 2, As others said alk is a factor id double check on another test kit just in case. 3, I at one point had my tank to "clean" for zoas/lps when i had very little fish and only feed them a few times a week. Im just throwing out there my few times i had problem zoas. some times they melted to just a few and i saved them other times they just died. good luck

O one more thing.... zoa pox i have delt with to You will def know they have zoa pox. white almost pimple looking spots. If you see this move them away from other zoas as it will spread. i used furan 2 type of medicine i found at petsmart to kill zoa pox.

They don't look like they have pox. I usually dip in iodine and coral rx and put in my sons tank. Sometimes stuff gets ****** for no reason. Too many probables.

Im about to dip everybody in a 3ml per liter solution if betadine and tank water. Planning on ten minutes. Also picked up some aquavitro fuel to try out.

Be careful with the fuel!! Sounds like great stuff but use minimal amounts like .5 ml to start. Seems like it mostly fuels unwanted cyano and algae!! It is a great product just use with caution.

Ha just way over did it then. Did the dip, they all look ******. Hopefully they get better tomorrow

Make sure you remove the Valonia - bubble algae. It can irritate zoas. 10% peroxide dip for 10 min should kill it and any other algaes. Many algaes have chems that are toxic to corals and will irritate the polyps so they won't open. The dip should cause any unseen pests to scurry, too. All my zoas respond very favorably to this method when I need to clean up a colony that gets algae in it.
