Zoa reaction to light

I've seen people mention that closed zoas mean your light is too low but I have the opposite experience. My zoas stay closed if the light is too high and open and extend fully when light is lowered. What are people seeing? I have only seen this in zoas so I can only speak for those.

Each Zoa can be different. Flow may also play a part in it. I keep most of my zoas low (less than 100par) but then I have a few that like more
