Zoa Rock Garden - Pink Zipper Taking Over

Hey guys,

Wondering how you all handle the situation where you have 1 of your colonies (usually a paly) taking over a rock that it shares with other Z & P's? I have a colony of Pink Zippers which has taken off ahead of its neighbors and will quickly dominate the rock.

I can take the whole rock out of the tank no problem. Would it be best to glue the polyps around the parameter of the colony to prevent further growth? I suppose I could also cut away at them, but will these injur the colony as a whole?

I know Pink Zippers are prone to do this, but out of all the fast growing Paly's these are 1 of my favorites.

Just cut them off till the others catch up or just let them grow faster since you like them

If you don't want them together just remove them and glue them to their own rock while you can.

I was more trying to determine if there is a detrimental effect in just cutting/tearing them off the rock. Not trying to save the ones I remove. I just want to keep the colony contained. That is why I thought maybe gluing down would work? If I do take the rock out of the water and cut/tear away should I be concerned with the toxin getting back into the water?

I guess I will create a few frags by cutting them off the colony rock for the time being. If they continue to outpace the others I will have to start giving away Pink Zipper frags.

I like to only put 1 type of zoa/paly per rock.
