Hi guys, I really like zoas as fillers around the tank. I guess I must finally be doing something right because the corals are taking off with growth. Unfortunately my zoas are spreading like weeds everywhere. I thought they would just form around the base of other corals but some things they try and smother. So what do you guys to to control the spread on main scape not rock islands? Just gloves and scissors? Drop a war coral in the middle of the field? Laser kills? Trained zoa spider?

Funny!!! . I actually have mushrooms around their perimeter and they don’t go past . Didn’t have that in mind when I did my placement but my zoanthids grew but stopped at the mushrooms. For some reason they don’t care to cross the stylos either .

Lol, I built a mushroom barrier on one side also to stop them. They are climbing all over my stylos though.

My stylo’s are quite massive and we’re growing long before I added the Zoa’s . Maybe it’s because of the size of mine that I don’t have them wandering past . How big are your stylo’s . Maybe cut back the zoa’s near the stylo’s and glue more shrooms !. I do remember back in the day that when may zoanthids were surrounded by aptasia they didn’t spread or come out for that matter lol !! Kidding !!! You don’t want that problem !!!

Mine are like 3 inches and 5 inches tall.

I have the same issue with my zoas encroaching on other stuff. I use kalk paste to keep them away from certain corals. Same method as with aiptasia. It usually takes a couple applications but it does the job.
