Anyone else have similar experiences with Zoa's changing tip color based on what they're near?

Here's a picture, best I can get honestly.... see the Zoa all the way on the left, that's the same Zoa as one that's in the middle of these green disk ones.

However the tips on that one are bright green. I thought because it was a baby maybe this was why and it would grow it out, but as it grows the tips are getting greener.

I'm thinking because it's touching these other Zoa's maybe it's effecting it's Zoo.

Not sure. Maybe just crazy. Maybe it'll grow out to normal and it's just a zoa life cycle thing, but I have many other smaller zoa's of the same breed growing and spreading with no green testicles. my phone auto corrected it to this so I'm leaving it, but I meant tentacles.

That cracks me up.
I'm not sure but I've seen my babies start out a little different only to be the same as the other adults as they got bigger.

Me too, and I thought I was just seeing things for weeks also.

But every day now I'm like "what the heck man, are you this zoa or that zoa?" lol Like see the other one that's about the similar size to it in the same photo.... different color tentacles.

Just wondering if this is something that can be intentionally achieved maybe. Would be cool to experiment.

Looking a little closer it might be a different breed.

couldve been the product of spawning in the original owners tank.

he has a 10ft long zoa frag tank just filled with zoa frags for years he frags and refills and sells. Maybe they cross bred while In there. My only other thought.

So they don’t look the same at all the ones on the left look like mowhawks or something like that and that little guy looks like a JF rainbow incinerator looks like you got lucky lol and the ones on the left side of the disk are the same as the left side of the picture if that made any sense lol

Makes much more sense than any other theory. That they are indeed just different breeds.

Now I wonder if the store owner just likes to surprise his customers or if it was un-intentional or natural. Lolll

Lol I mean it happens ! If that’s the case the owner is pretty cool just giving away rainbow incinerators and stuff !

It's not usual to have multiple different strains on the same plug and some folks even do it intentionally. I've seen this happen often enough with stores where unsold frags grow across eggcrate and into each other. Later, when they're remounted you end up with a mixed frag. Further, its not always immediately noticeable if you have baby polyps in the mix. Def a nice little bonus.

Haha yeah I know many places do this, but it just looked like it had the same disk with different tentacles but yeah I imagine as it grows out more I'll see the better coloration difference.

Hope it happens to be that $99 JF cuz I spent $20 on it :P

You do have three different zoas on that plug and a nice deal for $20. But in regards to the original question, I have never seen another zoa change/morph colors due to proximity to another zoa. I have had them take several months to acclimate and finally reach the coloration that they should be.

Mine changed color without anything near them no clue why as I just asked basically the same question the original color was puke green with an orange center but as you can see they are now alot difrent then the original ones
