i noticed in the past week it looks like my zoanthiads are turning inside out through their mouths. Has anyone experienced this?

Ewww!!!!!!
Pics please. Sounds weird.

Do you mean like a umbrella. Some of mine did this when I was irritating them with a Turkey baster this morning while knocking detritus out of their base.

Looks pretty strange to me. Keep us posted if these eventually succumb to the giant reef tank in the sky. At least we’ll have some info if this pops again in another tank.

Pics under whites are best.
But haven't seen anything like that in my tank.

That is a pic under whites just looks really blue...it’s not pox it looks like what ever is inside them is spewing out through their mouth.

They are at the bottom of the tank they have been in the same spot for 6 months. I don’t think it’s the lighting they have been spreading great and then all the sudden this

Maybe a rapid melting zoas will do this from time to time not sure anyone has an answer for it

Following. Some of my 1 1/2 yo RPE paly's are doing something similar, shortly after finally starting to multiply. First they look like an open umbrella, then they close up and shrink down to buttons. I see no evidence of bugs or nudi's.

Do you have any pics?

I'll snap a couple when the lights go on. The odd thing is that they don't seem to be "melting". I have plenty of experience of that with my zoas. This started shortly after I stupidly od'd the tank with Phosguard, about 4 weeks ago.

Hmmm you know mine aren’t melting either but in the past few weeks I started to run gfo for the first time....also my alk has dropped from 12 to 9. I wonder if this is a connection since the 2 products are similar

The day after I added the Phosguard my Devil's Hand, Lobophytum sp, shrank and stayed closed with some serious sloughing for several days, I think in response to a serious drop in Phosphates overnight. I pulled the Phosguard out the next day but it took several days for the Lobo to open again. It's fine now, but the RPE's started acting like this shortly after. The really odd thing is not all of them are doing it. I'll get a pic later tonight.

Of course, now that I've made a big deal out of this, at least one of the RPE's seem to be opening back up, just there in the top center. The other two have retracted under the open heads and I can't get a good pic angle on them. Guess I'll just monitor them for a few days and see what happens. I have no idea what else to do anyway.

Just re-read your post and I had the same issue last year with GFO dropping my alk AND my calcium. Stopped using it, did a couple of water changes and they both went back to acceptable levels.
