Looking at my zoas today and noticed white spots. I also noticed them on my rocks. They don’t seem to be bothering the zoas any. They are still wide open and stretching for light. They are still multiplying and don’t see any bad signs. Any idea what they might be?

Here’s a thread. Interested in the outcome.

i found that thread was thinking about doing it. I’m going to give it a couple days see if it gets worse. I also wasn’t sure about that product because it said freshwater.

Well..... it’s been 48 hours of monitoring my zoas. It appears my fears have come true. I attempted blowing the white spots off and nothing. I don’t want to lose any Zoas so I ordered some furan 2. It seems some people have had a positive affect from using it. Ideally I would start a quarantine tank but, I just don’t have the space for one. I will try dosing the medicine in a separate container and then rinsing them off well before putting them back in the tank. It least like this I know the change in water parameters won’t have a negative affect. I hope this will accelerate them to heal faster. I think I will try doing the dip 3 days in a row with 24 hours between each period. After the third dip I will wait a week and see how the Zoas are doing. I still would like to know how they even were infected with Zoa Pox to begin with. I haven’t made any big changes in the tank or even new additions. I really hope they go away quickly. Attached are more photos of them at night when they are closed. They still remain happy and open and accept reef roids so, still not showing bad side affects. I just want to beat it before they take a turn for the worse.

Im not 100% sure it’s Zoa Pox to be honest. I have read that some Paly’s absorb substrate into their skin. In that case, they might be Paly’s and it could be sand particles. With them acting normal and not perpetually closed it makes me believe that more.

The only issue I have is that I don't have sand in my tank. The substrate that I have is black and larger size but, it does have white particles in it. I have to wait a few days for the Furan 2 to arrive either way so I'll continue monitoring them over the next few days. I wanted to have it on hand because I went to multiple pet stores and LFS and no one seems to stock it. When I have the product on hand before I use it I may try to agitate the white spots and see if pus comes out. I would rather start medication on them now in the early stages than wait until its worse. It does seem them even if I dip them and it's not Zoa Pox the medicine will not have a bad side effect. It may be better to do as a preventative measure. It sucks to not know how to move forward without experiencing it before. I just hope I can get rid of it in case it happens in the future I will know exactly how to handle it.

Yeah, I'm tempted to get Furan as well just to have on hand. I was going to mention, worst comes to worse I have seen people separate the infected polyps so it doesnt spread to the whole colony. Not sure if thats worth researching as well for future reference.

My palys will pick up sand. That could be what's going on
