I have a question how much furan 2 is in each packet? cant seem to find answer even when googled it. I got some from the LFS but they only had a big jug so they let me have some in a baggie.Could I just use like a teaspoon or so?

thanx

The box of API Furan 2 I have says each packet contains:
60mg Nitrofurazone
25mg Furazolidone

I haven't used it yet so I don't know the dosage either. I just keep some on hand in case of zoa pox.

A search will probably provide some dosage info.

I have some zoas that have melted and few that are struggling. They have what seems to be a film on them. I put them in a lil bit higher flow area and dipped in vit C and that didnt seem to work. A local reefer that has a zoa dominate tank and has for a while suggested using the furan II he said he had some do the same dipped them a few times and they opened up. So was goin to give it a shot.

Ok.

I've done this before and has helped with some zoas staying closed all the time or being partially opened. The dip has also killed some of my colonies so use at your own risk.

1 furan 2 packet per 1qt fresh saltwater, same paramaeters as tank water i.e. temp, salinity etc..
I use a small heater and micro tunze pump for flow, they say the higher the temperature the better the furan 2 dip works so maybe go to ~81°
Dip the affected corals in furan 2 for about 5-15min
Then dip in a seperate container that has tank water to rinse of the furan2 then place back into tank, recomend starting with low flow and low light area until coral gets healthier.

I'm not home to verify the actual amount per packet but based on my math I think you'll need 2.6grams or 1tsp per packet.

The jar of Furan 2 covers 850grams/3270gallons = .26grams/gallon
The packet of Furan 2 covers Xgrams/10gallons
So the packet has 2.6grams/10gallons

Converting from grams to tsp I estimated that Furan 2 has a consistancy of flour, in using an online conversion tool 2.6grams of all purpose flour = 1tsp of total volume.

Good luck.

Furan II has helped me treat Zoa Pox in the past. If you have a fungus it may help, but I have no experience using it for that. You can always try a quick dip at lower strength.

Iodine based dips like Seachem Coral Disinfectant can sometimes help unhappy filmed zoas....Sometimes not. :( I always do shorter then advertised dips at lower strengths. If you see good results then you can try the advertised amount.

Good luck, I hope your frag gets happy.
