Hello! I was gifted a really nice frag of Bob Marley zoas this weekend, and I have some questions because I have not kept any zoanthids in my reef tank until now. The frag is a cluster of 10 polyps. What is the best way to mount zoas? Typically I remove coral from frag plugs then superglue them to my scape, I really do not like the look of white frags in a reef tank. These zoanthids do not have a typical skeleton that I can pry off, and I am not seeing any glue on the frag to pick the coral off from. Should I cut the stem off the frag plug and mount the disc on a rock in hopes the polyps will grow over the disc onto the rock? And I am reading all kinds of flows and placements people put zoas at, what is the best spot in a tank to keep these little buggers open. Thanks in advance!

I would just leave on the plug unless you are very careful since zoas dont have any skeleton. Also bob marleys grow extremely fast so itll cover that plug in a couple months.

After quarantine I cut the stem off the plug and mount the disc on the rock work.
As far as placement I guess it depends on your lighting. I suggest starting lower part of the tank and work your way to its final destination. As far as flow I have about 2500 gph on my 40br and I have zoas everywhere and their all open and growing well. I'm a firm believer of med flow for zoas

If you do any fragging or removing the zoas from the plug, just remember to always wear eye and hand protection just in case! From what I've seen we don't really know which zoas carry enough of the palytoxin to hurt us, so it's always best to be on the safe side when dealing with zoas!
