So yeah I have a pair of zoanthids that closed up a over month ago and never opened up. Never put in new coral or fish or anything new into the tank for this to happen. Brand new tank (6 months) and no history with pests. My other zoanthids are thriving and more heads pop out every week. Really confused on why this may be happening. Parameters are stable and good.
Any thoughts?
After two weeks of them being closed I moved them to a different location thinking they were either getting too much or too little light but nothing really worked so far. I bought and iodine dip hopefully in comes in before the zoanthids die but yeah can’t really think of something to do

Sometimes corals die and we never figure It out. If everything else is doing well I would not be concerned and consider it a loss. It happens to all hobbyists. Do not make changes or interventions to a tank for 1 coral if all else is thriving.

Dang okay ofc it’s my most expensive zoanthid aswell but yeah, that’s why I only moved the frag instead of tuning the lights down

If everything in my tank is happy, healthy and growing, and i lose one piece then its just unavoidable. Sometimes it happens... I have 30-40 coral in my 40 gallon. I've probably lost about 5 over the last 1.5 years that just didn't make it. It happens

The thing is, it was happy for like 3 months then out of nowhere it started to close up which is weird

Dont toss it yet. Zoas can stay closed for weeks or longer and still eventually open back up.

Any dwarf angels? Mine only like to eat expensive zoas. They look like candy to them.

But yeah, sometimes it just happens. You can try giving them a good scrub and dipping.

I have some Miami Vice that closed up for months, then I found out that they need high flow and moved them to a location that a power head blasts them and now they are growing. So depending on what kind of Zoa they are, you may have to do the same.
