Hi guys,

I noticed some dots moving around in my pico tank and when I looked closer I saw this zoanthus spawning? Is this a thing in aquariums?

I can´t find another explanation. There are at least a couple hundred of those dots you see in the first´s zoa mouth. It doesn´t seem like zooxanthelae and I don´t feed them anything.

Hey Alvaro :)
Nice Frag! Though Zoas may reproduce sexually, IME they usually reproduce asexually when in the aquarium. That would probably rule out the spawning explanation. To me, it looks like it could be some poop or just something that it spit out. Perhaps an explanation for this would be the GHA on the frag plug itself. Maybe your Zoas consumed some of it since it's likely to be an irritant (I recognize this is a far fetched claim haha). If not that, it could have been anything that got in that little guys mouth that he just spit up. Either way I would recommend taking a tooth brush and removing as much of that GHA as you can. I would also dip your frag if you haven't already. It doesn't need to be a complicated dip, just put the Zoas in an H2O2 solution and wait about 10-15min (Zoas are very hardy) Hope this helps!
