Is it not that they all need about the same?

While they are likely different species, even if they are all the same species just expressing different fluorescing and chromo proteins says the photobiology is different and different environmental conditions are needed.

Its flow. When they stretch out, it means the flow is good. When they shrink down, they are avoiding flow (if too strong). Lighting is when the polyp is stretching. So if the petals are reaching to the top it means they need more light. If the petals are flush with the center of the polyp, the lighting is perfect. If it looks like an umbrella and the petals are downward (reverse) then it means something at the base is bothering it (copods, i.e. pest(s)). So, just remember - petals mean LIGHTING and stem means FLOW. It's a very good sign when the stem is reached out like that. And its not 100% flow/lighting. It could be other things. A lot of coral have their own preferences. I have some zoas that stay low regardless of flow or light.

Some Z/P's want different par. I have had some that only like 100 amd below and I have had some who LOVED getting blasted with 150-200+ par.

My old Bam Bam colony LOVED tons of light and tons of light and flow, which my Fruit Loops didn't. They didn't start growing until they were lower light/lower flow while BB's were the opposite.

I have some that are like that too. I have a few that are currently getting blasted like crazy lol it even looks funny, but they enjoy it!
