I have about 4 years of reefing under my belt...and have been out of the hobby for a little over six years now. I got out when my wife became pregnant. Not because I had too, but because as a young (31yrold) father I wanted to devote my time to my growing family.
Right before I broke down and sold everything off this is what my tank looked like. 90 gal display, 60 gal sump.
Now that my son is six and my wife and I built our dream house I wanted to start another reef tank. With that said, we saved tons of money by finishing the basement ourselves instead of our builders finishing it. It should be done this coming Aug/Sep timeframe. Shortly after that I would love to start putting this together. Buy stuff from now to then.
The plan for this display tank is a hair smaller (55-75 gal) but with a better sump/refugium.
That being said, I want a tank with 90-95% zoa's and the rest SPS acropora corals. Is a reef tank like this even possible? I have read about people zoa's melting.
A lot of the equipment I want to be energy efficient as possible. I can pay almost 3 months of utility bill in the new house compare to the cost of one month at the old....and I love it!
Some of the equipment I'm leaning towards are the following:
Deep Blue 57 edge rimless 36x18x20 (are Deep Blue good tanks???? Or should I do a red sea reefer tank? Or are there better brand tanks out there?)
EcoTech Radion XR30w G3 Pro (should I get 2???? The PAR reading seem good for SPS at the top half of the tank)
EcoTech Vortex MP40
EcoTech Vectra M1 Return pump
EcoTech Reeflink
Tigger Emerald Sump 3, with emerald ATO tank (unknown refugium light, and pump equipment for ATO)
Vertex Omega skimmer 150
I'm not for sure if the stuff below is need....Thoughts? Is it possible to have to clean of a tank?
GFO/Carbon reactor
Calcium reactor
UV sterilizer
Should I get PAR Meter
should I buy live rock or get reef cleaner rock
Stuff I can't decide on brands/modules:
heater
RODI unit
The livestock I want are:
2 clown fish (tank raised)
Labouti Fairy Wrasse
Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse or Velvet Fairy Wrasse
Mystery Wrasse
Helfrich's Firefish
Watchman Goby
Coral Beauty Angelfish (I was successful in my old tank with one)
Rosetip bubble anemone (This will be the first thing introduced to the tank, allowing it to establish in an area....and stay there for a month or longer before any corals go in)
Harlequin Shrimp
Fire Shrimp
Tridacna crocea clam
Am I missing anything or is this a horrible Idea?
Thanks for any and all help.
