Zoas are dying due to aptasia

I am looking for a way to eradicate these pests so it stops overtaking the zoas in the tank. I have tried aptasia x, but that seems to make them come back in full force. I have read that a paste can be made and it will take care of it but not sure what brand or what to use to help with this. Also I think I have the dreaded majona as well.

I would think that being they are so close to the zoanthids that putting any type of paste/chemical would harm the zoanthids too and IME using methods like kalk, lemon juice etc. Only controlled the population. I would maybe look into berghia nudibranch. Just my opinion

I didn’t believe those nudis would do the job.... but I’m a believer now. I added just 4 of them in my nano. Took them about 2 weeks to get the job done.

F-aiptasia is good but not when you’re working around zoas. I’ve tried peppermint shrimp and they eradicated my tank of aiptasia in about 2 weeks. They will pick at corals but it’s what has got to be done I guess.

I had a wicked problem. In the hundreds. File fish cured my ills, and I think he’s cool. nudis’ Are good, joes juice gets great reviews. Kalk paste and aptasia x also work. Being close to other things you want to be careful to spot feed it. Aptasia x has a syring that can concentrate the paste.

I like the natural way best with Nudi and file fish. CBB works well too. I never had luck keeping them alive to be effective

Some people have had luck with peppermint shrimp but there is no guarantee that they will eat the aiptasia. At one point my tank was near overrun by the aiptasia and I got about 8 berghia nudibranch and placed 3 in my huge and the rest in the display they worked but it does take time. I also bought a filefish and that worked the best but he couldn't get down in all the cracks so the berghia definitely put in work. The filefish I had once rid of aiptasia loved to nip at my LPS ate hammer corals, plate corals and my acans so be careful if you go this route as I had to move them to quarantine after.

I've had aiptasia destroy paly/garden tanks and take out potentially thousands of dollars of softies. Once they start getting numerous you will not be able to kill them fast enough. When I see a single aiptasia polyp I nuke it immediately with an insulin syringe and vinegar.

Vinegar works just as good as Drain cleaner (Aiptasia -X) or kalk paste (wreaks and corrodes your needle) , and is a whole lot easier to work with.

If you have a lot of them you will be pretty busy with the syringe.

100% agree i am fighting like mad currently not feeding to see if the peps i added can start taking mine. Will spot feed fish sparingly over next while to keep peps hungry

very carefully i would be less comfortable doing this with zoa very close as it could effect them also

Be easy with the aiptasia X. I went a little too crazy with it. Some got in water column and killed some zoa polyps. Turn off pumps when using. It works however. Now when I use it I remove the rock to a bucket of tank water. Wait for the little jerks to open and then zap em.

Nope, Adam I'm in the same boat. 6 line will decimate the berghia as will any wrasse.

Get a file fish or try peppermint shrimp

My best success is a Kleini Butterfly who will clean this up quickly, is a pretty and friendly fish and after aptasia is gone will eat anything foods you offer within your tank !! Does NOT bother any of my coral. I have three tanks and have one in each

Totally agreed, I only recently discovered these. My new favorite aiptasia control.
