So, my Zoas have been doing great in my tank for over 1.5 years. Always open and never respond to other issues. Recently, everything in my tank is going great, to include my SPS, however, my Zoas started to close. They closed for a week and now, they have a brownish film ok the outside and they look to be melting.

Red Sea Max S400 109 gallon tank.

Alk- 8.3
Calcium -430ish
Mag-1280
Phos-.12
Nitrate- between 10-15
Salinity 1.025

The only thing I have recently changed was adding chemipure elite to reduce Phos.

I have added this before and they never reacted to this though.

also, a decorator crab that now has zoas

Hmm sometimes change can cause them to close up

It’s seems a bit late to longs them elsewhere

I have heard that some zoas are just weird like that and they close up for a while

When phosphates dropped did the water get clearer. Maybe too much light caused them to close. I have 2 frag tanks that grow zoas like crazy but my main tank with the xr30 pros can be more challenging because of the higher light

It did not seem to clear up anymore. My Ayer has been pretty clear, even before high Phos.
I also have a fuge, so i don’t have algae issues anywhere in my display.

i may just let the Phos go back up to .25, which is where it was before I added chemipure.

I think I’m going to just pull the chemipure out for a few days and see if anything happens.

any other ideas?
