So over the last couple months my green "just my green" zoa colony has been slowly melting away. they first close up, then with in a couple days they get this brownish layer of what looks like to me some kind of algae or fungus on them and get real skinny, then they fall off the rock during the night. i have looked at night when the lights were off to see if i could see or find anything that would be a predator to the zoas and i have had no luck. i have dipped them in coral rx and that didnt work, they keep on melting away... and like i said, its only the greens, i have 6 other kinds in my tank that are thriving.

some people have told me that they just molt away sometimes.

Any ideas?
thanks.

I am having the same problem with some of mine. I dipped in Coral Rx and then in lugol's solution (iodide). Also check to see if any critters come off when you dip and if other corals might be bothering them.

I did. the only thing i found was about 8 bristal stars. they were prob. eating the dead tissue of the zoas

Yeah, the brittle stars shouldn't be eating live coral. We'd all be in major doo doo if that was true.

Perhaps you can try fragging some of the green morphs and saving it?

i just did that. i cut off the piece of rock with the last of whats left and i removed the rock. dunno whats up with it, but i dont want it in my tank if it has a chance to spread.
