My Zoas have just started to curl up. I bought them as a couple of ‘heads’ and they have steadily grown to 15 - then ‘out of the blue’ this has happened.

I dipped them (in Revive) and the only things that showed themselves were some Amphipods. I believe these can damage the zoa - is that true and is that why they are curling up?

I assume you can’t get rid of amphipods altogether so should I just accept the worse and remove the Zoas as they appear to be showing no signs of going back to their former glory. All other corals (elegance, Acan’s, Fox etc are all looking good).
I didn’t dip for long (3 mins) - the bottle says up to 15, so should I dip again and for longer?
The Zoas are on their own island and there are places for these critters to hide.

I have amphipods and do not see any adverse effects on the zoanthids I have. I would suggest trying a different placement, although they were growing there could be a better spot for them.

Where in your tank are they?

They tend to appear when I lift up rock ‘islands’. However, I don’t see many albeit they may be there in numbers.

However, I’ve worked my way through all possible options of potential issue/s which finally meant looking at my refractor. Turns out my refractor is not accurate and my salinity had reduced to 1.023 - I’ve returned the salinity to 1.025 and, fortunately, I took this action pretty quickly and the Zoas have opened up and returned to their former glory.

When having problems I ‘lost’ one of my four flower anemones. I looked everywhere accessible but it was nowhere to be seen. I’ve changed the water twice since, including hoovering the substrate, but could locate nothing. Out of the blue it’s appeared - not only that but it’s in a place that I would have paid to put it - where it can be clearly seen. Christmas come early!
