I have something attacking my zoas. Started out with the frag below and just noticed it on a frag that was right next to it -- going on the same course. Can anyone id the issue and/or give advice on what to do?

Started like this:

Then this (right before I pulled it from the tank):

Mg is a little high and on it's way down after fighting bryopsis, but otherwise things have consistently been around:

Man that looks bad, it hurts when this happens, Are you sure nothing was harassing them forcing them into submission ?

typical melting. next time, try dipping your coral, before introducing into the tank. it might carry some kind of infection or pest. i have been able to stop some zoas from melting before. if it is not showing good signs of health, pull it out & inspect it. if it smells like rotten eggs, find out why & if its a zoa, cut it off & re-frag then dip again. check if the frag plug or base of the zoa does not have anything strange hitchhiking on it, especially some type of sponge, any hikers will increase the chances of melting your zoas. as for the second frag melting, you're going to have to preform surgery & frag the healthy polyps & toss the dead ones by pulling it out, dip it & brush off any death off the frag & prep for surgery :). good luck & happy reefing!

I've used coral Rx and lugols with zoas. Both have been helpful. Good luck!

I tried dipping the Utter Chaos (the next zoas that started showing similar signs) in Lugols on Saturday. They've slowly started to open back up. I'll likely give them another dip later this week if they don't continue to look better. FWIW, I dip everything (Bayer, Revive or Lugos -- or sometimes a combination -- depending on what coral I'm adding) but I don't have a separate coral QT (only fish QT) at the moment so things can (and I'm sure do) get by.
