Zoas getting smothered by brown crusty something

As an update I decided to treat for another 48 hours last weekend. Everything looks much better now.

I still have one frag that has not opened up but it was completely encrusted with this brown muck. I had to scrape it off with a metal pick. It’s still alive (somehow) but not opening yet. Pics later when the lights come on.

How long did you wait between the treatments? I did one treatment last week and was stressing out the entire time because I was reading that it lowers the oxygen content in the water. I had my small skimmer running full blast to oxygenate the water as much as possible. One of the zoas I have opened up but the rest are still closed up. The brown stuff on them has definitely dissipated but they are still closed and I was wondering if I should do another treatment just not sure how far apart I should do them.

I waited a week but I did a 50% water change after the first one. Just keep your skimmer on full blast and take off the cup.

I wouldn’t recommend two doses that close together. I only did it because I was also treating my main system and I could monitor it all weekend.

I too did about a 60% water change I guess the biggest difference is that my tank is only a 29g biocube and the skimmer I have is that dinky biocube skimmer. I guess that is what worried me the most was the fact that the amount of water was so little that any small amount of change was going to be crazy and that the skimmer being so small wasn't going to generate enough oxygen alas all the fish were fine but then again I just recently added 2 new fish after the dose so I will probably hold off on that second dose till the new fish in my tank are much more acclimated so I don't stress them out any more than necessary.

Yeah I read the thread. Missed the part about bubbles being from your skimmer or whatever.. FWIW I'm still not convinced it's cyano because it keeps reoccuring yes?

Cyano popped up afterwards

This was some unknowing brown encrusting nastiness killing my zoas. It almost as hard as coralline algae. That problem has gotten better.

Absolutely. The first one didn’t even put a dent in it. Again, I wouldn’t recommend doing 2 doses in close succession like I did.
