Zoas looking bad

I'm still battling them. If you are OCD you can manually put a dent in them with tweezers. Do you blow yours off with a baster? I've gotten good where I can move them enough to see them. Too much damage seems to stress the zoa and causes them to close up and wither away.

I felt like a tweeker on dope looking for these things, eyes bloodshot acting crazy, seeing things that weren't there, it was a bad time.

I purchased a 7 line wrasse. He was the last fish I was wanting in the tank, so it worked out well. I’ll plan on moving everything but the zoas to the new tank when it’s up and going in a few weeks to try to starve the nudis. I’ll also make sure to dip everything before I move it over. Is it really safe to dip the entire live rock?

It’s hard to see him in that light, but he’s super cute and found lots of nooks and crannies to swim through. (He’s under the left side of the frogspawn.) Good thing, cause the goby doesn’t seem overly fond of him.

I don't recommend dipping rock, it is very porous and has the ability to hold the toxic do inside of it, i have anyways tried to keep it to a minimum. If you do have to do some rock i would recommend having a few different containers of fresh salt water for rinsing and soaking.

Don't worry too much, the nudis can be beat. The wrasse is a great start and what worked for me, was to look for them on the zoas under the blue lights and suck them off with a turkey baster. They tend to take on the colors of the zoas that they are munching on, so they can be pretty cool looking. The wrasse will just clean up the leftovers.
There's worse bugs to get.

I would not dip my rocks. The wrasse is great! Move all coral to new tank, closely inspecting and dipping along the way. Leave the rock, 6 line and kill any zoas left on the old rock yourself. Starve’em but this will test your patience.

Thanks. That was my thought too. I may just have to buy fresh live rock for the new tank and make sure everything goes in clean.

The wrasse is definitely picking at things. And seems far more interested in the zoas and Palys that aren’t looking too great. So hopefully he knocks most of it out and then I can get the rest by starving them when the new tank is set up.

just an observation and another possibility. Assuming those little white spots on the zoa in the back.. the large one in back are not from Nudi bites. You may have zoa pox. I just went through a bout of that with 3 of mine. Used furan - 2 and cured it. Gonna go look see if I have a pic. Use the Furan 2 as a dip, dont dose your tank if you choose to try it.
There is someone who posted here in R2R that got me to do mine.

Hi Bleigh I had a few nudi on my zoa’s and like some people have said they take on the same colour of the zoa’s and they are so hard to spot sometimes. I found with a torch at night helped, as one was crawling on the glass and one on the zoa’s, so with long handle tweezers I pick them off luckily I must have got them in time has I had no further problem. Yes I do dip more now. If it’s any help here is a link I have come across that apparently it destroys the eggs. https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/resources.asp?show=15

That’s interesting. I had never heard of that. I did post a picture of my palys that may have respembed that a while back. I sucked it up and took a magnified picture. Everyone agreed it looked more like something benign. I can’t remember what - a snail or sponge or something.

Since I got the wrasse, the zoas are all Looking way better. But I’ll def check them over for the pox.

Thanks for the link! Yeah. The wrasse seems to be helping a lot. Glad I grabbed him.

I have been told you shouldn't dip an entire rock since it can absorb the dip and leach it into the tank. I am using Bayer mostly so that might be part of the reason why.

I see you are in Charlotte - Which LFS do you go to that quarantines their fish?

Salty's does with some new fish that are more prone to disease like tangs from what they have told me, but not aware of any others doing it routinely.
