hello, I have been purchasing zoa frags in the hopes of growing a zoa garden. But lately the zoas are either not opening, not opening all the way, or opening during blue light periods and closing during the white light period
Not sure if this matters but I also have a green hair algae outbreak.
My nitrates are at 0 using Red Sea kit, phosphates are 0.08.
I use an Ecotecch Radion light. White light is on for 4 hours and blue lights are on for 8 hours.
About a month ago I dipped some zoas in Revive.
The tank is a nano - 28 gallon Red Sea tank. Have a skimmer running and a UV sterilizer too. I have 3 hydro power heads going. I do regular water changes. Every 2 weeks and I definitely do not overfeed.
I have 2 DaVinci clowns and one dottyback

Any ideas on what could be happening with the zoas and as a side question how do I get rid of the hair algae?

Thanks so much!!

You may be giving them too much light judging by them closing up.

Not nessecarily just white but over all.

I don't think the Gha is really related but in general just scrubbing with. A toothbrush and introducing more clean up crew is the go to soloution.

I'm following this! I have faced the same results as you lighting wise. When i had my whites on for 8 hours and blues 3 hours my zoa's were strecthing after a few weeks, and the polyp expansion became smaller and smaller.
With reversing the light, 8 hours blue and 3 hours white my zoa's did alot better, and some of them came back to normal already. I'm now running full blue as a test, but i'm not sure if i want to keep that going.

Same boat with the green hair algae, goodluck getting rid of it. It's a pain...:(

What percentage are you running your radion at?
I honestly don't know. The aquarium guys set up using sealink. I bought the add Sealink but I have not set it up. I heard it is very hard to set up. Can anyone show my their timing graph. Just to go by when I get the Sealink going. Thankd'

I did scrub the rock but the zoa frads. Will scrubbing them hurt than?
I read somewhere about it. Will dosing either vinegar damage the xoasbe kill algae by dosing vinegar or hydrogen. If so can someone point me to thread about dosing for hair algae, their radion light settings?? Hi

Just be a bit careful scrubbing the zoas themselves. They can spit at you out of the water. Scrubbing the plugs is fine.

I use a 10 to one water to peroxide soloution. Don't leave them in too long. An unhealthy zoa won't like it.

Just lower your light intensity 10% overall.

Your best bet will be snails and some hermit crabs.
