Zoas not opening up all the way.

So all my zoas look pretty good except my sunset palys. I bought them two weeks ago from AquaSD. Three of the polyps are open like usual but three are not. The three that are not, look much smaller then the rest and much like an umbrella. My salinity and water parameters are all good. Last week I lowered my kessils after hearing from some other reefers that my lights were too high. Everything else seems to be benefitting from the lower lights but three days ago I noticed these. I thought maybe they would go back to normal but they have not so I'm asking for your guys help once again. Has anyone experienced this before? How do I fix it? Sorry the pictures aren't the best. I took them with my Note 4.

They were completely closed up before lowering the lights. But it took them a few days to open when I got them. They didn't just open right away.

Maybe the 3 that are smaller got stung or got bothered by something

I'm not sure what could be bothering them or stinging them. I don't have anything but hermit crabs in my tank. And they are on the sand bed next to the rest of my zoas. there is space between each frag so they don't touch one another.

I also have some zoas's that just won't open, Some heads will open but not all the way. They are growing new heads but just won't open. I have moved them up and down and all around and nothing changes. I just ordered some coral Rx dip and coral frenzy. I will dip my zoa's when it arrives Saturday.

Let me know how it goes. I dipped all my zoas when I get them but I did these in particular again today. I swirled them in the coral rx for about 15 mins. Hopefully that helps. I do feed them too. So we shall see.

I also just recently started dosing with vit C and marine snow. I hope I can get them to open soon.

Dipped my zoas in coral rx the other day. Starting to see them open more. Still not all the way but definitely opening more. Will try and get a picture this evening.

Glad to hear they are getting better AlphaOmega. After dipping mine and putting in new carbon my zoas look better. My hammer is fully open, he just lacks the size he used to be. My zoas are open but they are lacking the color they once had so I'm guessing it will just take some time for them to recover.

It might just be a question of time in the tank. In my case, many polyps opened immediately after introducing the frag, but others took almost 3 weeks before they opened the first time. And then right after that, new polyps started forming. If I had to guess, it seems like the youngest polyps took the longest to open. Just acclimation to new water I suppose.

I got some Zoas from there a couple weeks ago. and they were slow to adjust to my tank but now they are all open now.

Flow! Sometimes when my zoas start closing put them in higher flow and seem to open up a little more. I use to get a brown film over mine a bit back and they would remain closed till I put in higher flow. They are tricky sometimes and get upset for no reason. The great z/p gamble.

I have some green zoa's that are probably receiving too much light so much of the colony stays closed but each day I feed the tank a cup of green water with a squirt of invertebrate food and a bit of coral frenzy. Within minutes all the polyps open up to feed. I've noticed orange and red and pink zoas seem to be able to take all the light I give them while the plain green and brown polyps seem to do better in lower light.
