I'm kind of new to Zoas and just bought a small colony from lps. I left them in the tank with the lights on and the bigger ones opened right up. The smaller ones haven't and the ones higher up haven't too maybe the flow is too big?

Some zoas will take longer than others to open. Also it's always a good idea to put new frags on the sandbed for at least a few days or so to let them get used to the light.

Also, examine your zoas carefully. I had a group of them not open up, while all the other colonies were opening up just fine and noticed a nudibranch hanging out on the closed group. I manually removed it and they eventually opened back up.

But if they're relatively new to your tank, I'm guessing they will need some acclimation time to the lighting.

Not unusual for them to not open right away. Did you acclimate them properly? Upon introduction, they do not favor bright lighting. They welcome heavy blues. Additionally place them in path of moderate water flow . If not open in the next couple of days, try a turkey baster and do gentile blasts to remove any possible sediment on them.

I'm having the same issue on one frag the other frags all opened with no problem here and there. i just placed on the sand bed and hoping they open. Is it safe to give them a coral x dipping and re-aclimate them again before introducing them to the tank? Or do you think they're dead? :(

In lieu of coralX try an iodine dip. They respond well with iodine

Try blowing them off with gentle blast from a turkey baster. They do require water flow at moderate level. What is your salinity and how bright are your lights?
