hello
i wanted to ask if zoas are able to stay alive in 1.020 salinity becuase everywhere it says lowest is 1.023 and highest 1.028 but when i went to the beach and saw zoas and took a water and checked the salinity it was over 1.030 the salt was of the grid in the salinity refactometer so if zoas can live in super high can they also live in low salinity?

What was the water temp where you checked? That can change the readings.
NSW is 1.026. I keep my tank at 1.026. My salinity probe is basically useless, I only test with a Milwaukee digital refractometer.

the beach at the time was a little warm tbh but when i reached home the water was little cold

If i remember correctly most refractometers need the water to be 77f to give you an accurate reading. And the hydrometer's should all have the temperature needed in the instructions. I think most are also like 77f-78f.
In other words, temp does matter.

@FAHADREEF

I actually tried to do hyposalinity in my tank a couple of years ago to curb a fish disease. Too lazy to break down 6ft of aquasculpture

The wheels start falling off around 1.020. Shrinking heads, loss of color

The wheels reeeeeeally start flying off around 1.015. Shrink, shrivel, stems turning gray.

I still, 2yrs later, have zoas that still haven't fully recovered in size and color after a few days in 1.015

HTH

Zoas are still a mystery to me, but generally they seem to start closing one by one when the salinity of my tank gets 1.027 or above. I haven't experimented with low salinity, but 1.025-1.026 seems like their happy place.
