Hi R2R,

I added a small Green Zoa frag (<20 polyps) several weeks ago to my relatively young tank. At first nearly all of the polyps were extended and vibrant. After a few weeks and a couple water changes significantly less polyps are opening. Last week, I moved the zoas into a low flow area on the sand bed to reduce direct lighting/ flow. This is my third coral addition, so hoping to see if anyone sees anything faulty with my set up before I continue adding more coral. The hammer coral which is sitting on the sand bed close to the Zoa is thriving.

Tank parameters as of last night:
Salinity: 1.026ppm
PH: 8.0
Ammonia & Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: <10ppm
Phosphate: ~0 ppm
Calcium: 400ppm
Alkalinity: 8 dKH

Irritated. Could be one or many reasons: Too much light, something in the tank touched them, too much flow.

The polyps are starting to open a bit more with each day that passes, so I am hoping we will be back to normal soon enough.

Things I have changed since then:
1. I realized that the light intensity was probably too bright for the zoas. No PAR meter to confirm. I did a good amount of research on AI Prime HD light presets and reduced the intensity to reflect what other reefers had success with in LPS/ Softy tanks for the NUVO 20 tank.
2. Moved them to the corner of the tank to get acclimated to the light. If they extend polyps I will move them closer to the center.
3. I dipped them for 10 minutes in Coral Rx Saltwater and gently scrubbed the rock with a toothbrush. I did not notice any invertebrate pests in the remaining solution.
