Zoas - So Fustrating Sometimes!

Why do I buy more right after I just had a mini colony melt away for no reason!!!!!!!!!! Why do I love this coral so much. I just had my 15 polyps of DeepWater Blue Thunders just up and melt away after 3 months. I started with 2 polyps. I know no one has a reason why they do this but I have to just say it to feel better. WHY???????????????????

when ever i get any zoas i frag them up ASAP and place in different tanks to avoid this, also i have a few local friends in the hobby who i also trade with as soon as i get a new coral, this way if something does die i have MANY options for a back up

Now that is smart. I need to set up a frag tank. Just another reason to. Cant afford to be loosing things.

Buddy I feel your pain! Over the years I have had my large share of mystery melting! LOL! You got to just keep fighting!

I still stop at the LFS and they are the first thing I look at. Will never give them up.

Especially hurts when you turned a few polyps into a mini-colony. try and cut em up, keeping them in the same tank is ok, just keep them seperated in different areas. Especially until you find their sweet spot in your tank.

zoas, I want to add a few to my tank (which is 12 weeks young) i was told to wait a few more months, does this sound right? I have 2 colonies of acans that are dong well (now frags)

you can add zoas whenever, i put some in my tank two days after getting the salinty right and they are fine.

Personally im not buying zoanthids anymore. They just have too many issues. Im sticking to Paly's for now on.

Are the Paly's more hardy? What the difference between the 2 (beside toxins)

I have had some nice ones just *poof* gone all I have are pix that I took I now frag them up as well

I am on my third instance of zoas melting and this is my last time . Colonies I have had for over a year and grew from 1-2 heads into 50+ just melt away.
