All except for the palys and some nuisance Proto palys growing that I have slowly been killing.,

Wish I could help but I've been dealing with the exact same issue. So much so that I no longer buy them. I've been able to keep one type of no name zoa only. All others melt away after only a couple of months if that long. My tank is well established at almost 3yrs old. I can't figure it out.....

The palys are doing better higher up, have you try move the zoas higher up. the way i see your zoas it seem like not enough light.

They look like they are reaching for the light so it cant be that the light is melting them. I had the same issue, I switched from making my own water to using the LFS filtered sea water and it solved my zoa problem. Everything looks much better, my zoas and acans all colored up very nicely.

What kind of water do you use?

Could it be that something is agitating them to the point of closing up? Look for any predators.
