Hello fellow reefers, I hope you enjoy this article about the Halichoeres wrasses we know and love. Before we start, I would like to thank @SaltyT and @Crabby48 for allowing me to use some of their photos. So, lets get into it. The genus Halichoeres is differentiated from other genera of wrasses due to their teeth. Often the teeth differentiate many of our commonly loved and owned Labrids. Specifically with the teeth of these wrasses is their canines. Halichoeres species often have pointed...

Wrasses are a very well known family of fish brought into this hobby, however one species that isn't known about as well but we often recommend for small tanks is the stunning Pseudocheilinops ataenia. These are a small species of wrasse, often maxing out around 2 inches, now one of their biggest traits is the big bug eyes that look too big for their bodies. Only issue many find with these wrasses is actually hunting one down. Everything I have briefly mentioned will be more in depth below...

Wrasses are a very beloved family (Labridae) in this hobby, the biggest reason is obvious, they're bright, colourful, and for the most part 'reef-safe'. Cirrhilabrus are often the first genus you look at and think of when Wrasses are mentioned. I can understand why, they resemble everything you'd want a wrasse to be. Each one is different and all of them are reef-safe, many of them remain small and stay in the 2 to 4 inch range. Not only are they small but there are over 60 recognised...

REEFERS’ RULES According to @ReefGeezer I found this information on an old CD that I was getting ready to discard. Yep… I still have one computer with a CD- ROM! The file creation date was in May of 2004. I thought the information might be useful and decided to dust it off and share it. I did update the rules a little. I’ve learned a few things in the last 18 years! REEFER’S RULE #1: Nothing good happens fast in a reef tank… Ever! No need to change this one. I didn’t make it up. This is an...

. Sourcing Marine Fishes and Invertebrates Experienced aquarists are aware that fishes from different regions of the world can have different levels of sustainability when acquired for their aquariums. The reasons for these differences may include collection technique (the use of cyanide for example), overharvesting, or poor handling after collection. The following are some general descriptions regarding the relative sustainability of animals from various regions. These issues are not...
