R2R Username: @gws3 Build Thread: Graham’s (GWS3) Eye Candy Thread – Best of the Best Introduction: It’s an honor to be selected as Reef of the Month on R2R! My name is Graham and I’ve been reef keeping for over 15 years now. I’ve always been fascinated with the plant and animal kingdom and have kept aquariums since I was a child. My first aquarium was a basic 10-gallon freshwater tank which I got immense enjoyment out of and learned very much from. However, I was always drawn towards...
THE PROBLEM As is well known, dinoflagellate pests in the reef aquarium are perhaps the worst that we will face during the life of our system. These pests are quite difficult to eradicate because dinoflagellates have a great capacity for reproduction, propagation and survival. In addition, measures that are effective for one species are not equally valid for others. To complicate matters, aquarium history and environmental variables, e.g., existing nitrate and phosphate concentrations...
Genus Paracheilinus: The Flasher Wrasses @SaltyT As many of you know, the subject of wrasses is near and dear to my heart. I’ve noticed an uptick in questions regarding flasher wrasses lately so let’s talk about them! First, let’s discuss the biology and behavior of these wrasses. Flasher wrasses and fairy wrasses are closely related and the two co-exist with each other throughout their geographic ranges. Flasher and fairy wrasses are both colorful, small and highly social. In the wild...
Sand Sifting Gobies: True vs False… what’s the difference? by @i cant think One thing I find interesting is how people label many gobies under the term “Sand sifting” now I absolutely adore gobies. For those of you who have seen my build threads you’ll know I have now got 7 gobies. Two of those are often put under the term “Sand sifters”. So, my plan in this thread is to try “show” the difference between a True Sand sifting Goby and a False Sand sifting goby is. So, let’s start with...

The basic care and description are provided by several online vendors and anecdotal experiences and pictures are shared by hobbyists in many online formats including forums and...
R2R Username: @maroun.c Build Thread: Maroun.c 400G Build Thread Introduction: Hello All, It's a pleasure and an honor to have my tank featured as Reef of the Month! It is very rewarding and humbling to see my tank finally at that level after more than 20 years of reef keeping. Some info about me, my name is Maroun Chahine. I’m from Beirut-Lebanon, and I have been keeping saltwater tanks since the year 2000. Reefkeeping in Lebanon or the middle east picked up much later than it did...

Salinity Measurements for Marine Aquariums @Jay Hemdal Introduction The fundamental difference between freshwater and marine aquariums is of course, their respective salt content. The salt level is usually reported as either salinity (parts per thousand of salt in water) or specific gravity (the density of the solution relative to freshwater). Measuring the specific gravity of an aquarium is one of the first tasks learned by new marine aquarists. Obtaining an approximate specific gravity...
ReefEco Launches the StinkSink, a Skimmer Odor Carbon Filter Most of us aquarists at some point have experienced the waft of fish poop from our tank stand, conveniently reaching its apex just when guests stop by for a visit - or the stink bomb from an opened cabinet because we just can’t get to emptying and cleaning the skimmer cup in time. Skimmer stink can effect everyone who is around our tanks. The StinkSink aims to be an improvement over what has typically been a DIY solution to...
Well I updated my lighting on my main display from Orphek v4 gen 2's with 2 OR3 150's to Orphek ICON's with 4 OR3 150's. I thought I would put my lessons learned together for the upgrade to share with everyone and maybe make your upgrade a bit easier. I upgraded the following LED PCB + PC CARD COMBO Kit Aluminum TOP This kit comes with the glass lenses on everything 430nm and below. I'm hoping this fixes the issue's that I had on my V4 gen 2. If you make these upgrades. You will have...
