This tank was Reef of the Month in January 2018. Pretty spectacular, eh? Photo from the Reef2Reef archives courtesy of forum member robert s. b. ©2018, All Rights Reserved. At R2R, we suspect there are plenty of freshwater aquarists contemplating a change to saltwater. There are likely hobbyists who are lurking but are reluctant to ask freshwater questions. The R2R forum, however, is a warm and friendly place. You should feel free to ask anything. There are many questions we get in the...
Photo courtesy of the Reef2Reef archives, ©2018, All Rights Reserved. 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a wrasse; The stockings were hung on the live rock with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The fishes were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of surge buckets danced in their heads; Mantis shrimp rested to polish their parts, While clams opened mantles for the meals soon to start. When outside...
So, here's our first crossword. I recommend printing it out and enlarging it if possible, both the puzzle and the clues. If you see two numbers in a box, separated by a dash (-), the first number is across and the second number is down. The puzzle was started with a simple (free) crossword compiler, but due to its limitations, I did a lot of it freehand in Excel. Next time I'll use a more sophisticated compiler ($$$) so we can get a more professional-looking puzzle. In any case, I think...
TEST METER FOR TESTING NITRATES Back in October of 2017 I posed about a DIY Test meter …The second post in Jan 2018 expanded the work to look at using the Hanna HI-736 PHOSPHOROUS Checker as the measuring instrument. As I mentioned at the end of the Jan post I was exploring the use of other Hanna Checkers mostly because I wanted to expand the measurement range. The HI-736 was good for low range Nitrate < 3ppm, but I wanted something that would measure up to 20 + ppm. Here are the links to...
Part 1: Genicanthus Angel Overview Genicanthus is a genus of marine angelfish that belongs to the family Pomacanthidae. Pomacanthidae contains many of the iconic and most beautiful fish kept in marine and reef aquariums, like Emperor Angelfish, Regal Angelfish, Blueface angelfish, Queen Angelfish, Coral Beauty and many others. However, most of the marine angels are not considered reef safe or safe with caution. Another issue with most angels is that it is hard to keep more than one angel...

Today's article is brought to us from R.L., who we profiled recently. So, in Part 1, we started putting together our small-scale Carlson Surge Device for your home reef tank. We started testing it, and now we're going to finish and get the device where it needs to be--next to and above your display tank. At the end of the article are two videos that will help you to visualize what's happening during the testing phase. Fit and finish After testing in the bathtub, now we need to make this thing operational for the tank itself. We left these steps to the end...
