Hey man

Im not really sure what the prices are like there in India. But here's what i'd do:

First decide a size of an aquarium you'd like.
Then decide equipment.
Then livestock according to how your aquarium progressing. As you're new to the saltwater hobby, I wouldn't suggest making an aquarium based on livestock.

Like my aquarium is made in the sense for many fishes, a few sps and high bioload. That's why i choose a skimmer made for 1000L, but my aquarium water volume with sump included is only 600L.

I'd suggest maybe a 150L system for you. Use a skimmer rated to 250L or more. Use LEDs for an aquarium made for LPS and softies. I suggest a refugium and definitely keep a sump. Use a return pump that cycles your water about 10x an hour and add wavemakers that will create a flow of 20x water volume only in the main tank.

Stick to easy fishes such as clownfish, gobies, firefish.

Good luck :) hopefully i helped a bit

Hey guys, I realised it's been really long since I've updated

In 4 days, my aquarium will hit the 6 months mark and it's come a long way. More than half the corals from the previous update died as they all bleached due to heat. I got the aquarium during the rainy season over here, so the aquarium managed to remain at 27°C (80° F) which was alright, but a month later, the sunny season began and my aquarium's temperature would not go below 30°C (86°F). This lead to the bleaching and melting of pretty much every single coral or mine. Since then I have added a chiller, managing to keep the temperature at a constant 26°C (78°F), since then all new coral are thriving and all seems good.

Now in terms of fish too, I lost all but 2 of the 3 Chromis fish due to an ich outbreak. I went from 13 fish, down to 2 which was horrible for me, the corals and the tank. Since then I've gone through huge algae and cyano problems and ammonia problems due to a die-off of all my cheato and wow it's been rough.

However, I believe I'm finally starting to feel good about my aquarium.

The current fish stock is:
- 4 ocellaris clownfish
- 2 blue-green chromis
- 1 hector goby
- 1 green mandarin
- 1 desjardini sailfin tang
- 1 lamarck's angel fish

Ever since the ich problems and the algae problems, I've started dosing no3po4-x, and I love it.

Here are several photos

My Desjardini Sailfin Tang (he seems slightly skinny as he was starving in the LFS and has broken fins, now he's eating well, and is already recovering)

This is a photo of the chiller I got after 2 hours of instaling it, when I first installed it, it read 31°C, now I've never seen it go above 26°C.

I am proud of where this aquarium is going :) please give me any advice, I'd love to hear it

forgot to mention
Since then I have made modifications to my light:

I have added 3 x1w blue LEDs on a separate timer to act as moonlights

and I have added:
- 2 x1w red LEDs
- 2 x1w green LEDs
- 6 x1w UV LEDs
all on the same timer as the white lights to achieve a full spectrum lighting

It's been a while since I've updated this thread but the tank has definitely come a long way.

Firstly, equipment/additives upgrades:
  • Using a chiller
  • Started to implement the BRS two part
  • Kent marine iron/manganese dosing as my marcoalgae has not been doing great
Fish stock:
  • 4 clown fish
  • 2 chromis
  • 5 stocky pink anthias
  • 1 lamarck angelfish
  • 1 lyretail anthias
  • 2 carberri anthias
  • 1 mandarin
  • 1 hector goby
  • 1 diamond goby

I have had total coral crashes 2 times now

1st coral crash - no chiller at all hence everything bleached and died
2nd coral crash - my first chiller died out on my and left nothing alive during the summer

However, now that I've implemented my chiller, and everything has been stable and growing for the past 2 months, I'd like to give you an update
