120 Gallon Salty Condo

Fish Update

Forgot to post but a little over a week ago I added a Diamond Goby and yesterday added a Yellow Eye Kole Tang. All seem to be getting along well and doing just fine.

I completely agree with you Flip. I've only had it since Saturday but I love watching it swim all over the place. It tries to hang with the six line going in and out of the rocks. Kinda comical to watch!

Yeah, I've totally considered grabbing one up; but my yellow tang may not like it too much. LOL! I was thinking of getting one just to put in my tank out in the garage. That's how much I love those little guys. :)

I haven't had time to read through the entire thread, but are you dosing 2 part, or using kalk and/or ca reactor? Really love how your tank is maturing!

Your yellow tang might not tolerate a Kole, good point! I am dosing BRS 2-Part. As of right now I dose about 70mL per day of Calcium and 50mL of ALK. Thanks, the tank is just over a year old. The first fish added was almost a year ago. Still a fairly young tank.

A few updates:

Last week I added another Koralia wavemaker with 2 Koralia 2 pumps. This gives me a total of 4 PH's in the DT now. 2, Koralia 4's and 2, Koralia 2's. I have the 4's on one wavemaker set to alternate max/min from each other every 15 seconds. I have the 2's on the other wavemaker and they are set to pulse together every 5 seconds. I have the 4's on a photo sensor so they only pulse when the lights in the DT are on. I have the 2's pulsing all the time. Between the 4 PH's I have created great flow with random flow that helps keep detritus suspended. I sort of have an issue with getting food down to the substrate for the goby. Last night I saw him swimming up and grabbing food though so I'm not too worried about it.
I ordered the spectrapure ultra-precise level controller to use in the sump. I decided to go with this unit over the Tunze Ozmolator because I will have to pump the water from the Brute in the garage which is roughly 30 feet away and the Tunze can't do that. I also ordered another float switch to add to what I have been using as an ATO. These two float switches and solenoid will now go out in the garage into the Brute so I don't have to worry about turning the RO unit on and off when making water. This will also take my aquarium offline from the RO unit to prevent flooding if something were to go wrong. Now if a switch fails the new ATO will only be able to pump about 20 gallons to the sump and would only spill about 5 gallons if an error occurred. If the switches in the Brute fail the garage floor will get wet, not too worried about that.
This should also prolong the life of my filters in my RO unit as it won't be running twice a day to fill the evaporated water in the aquarium. After I get the float switches wired and installed it should make about 20 gallons at a time rather than a few gallons twice a day.

R.I.P. Kole Tang

Since I've introduced the Kole Tang the Hippo Tang has shown some signs of what I thought was ich. As of the past few days most of the fish are showing some signs of ich or marine velvet, not sure which it is. They've all shown signs of it but were eating great so I wasn't too worried about it. The Kole ate really good last night and as of today at lunch it wouldn't touch any food and was swimming rather strange and keeping it's mouth open at all times. It was not breathing heavy or rapidly but could tell something was wrong. Well... Tonight it passed...

All the other fish are eating well but the Foxface and the Hippo Tang are being serviced by the 2 fire shrimp constantly. I've started dosing Microbe-Lift Herbtana so hopefully that will cure whatever else is in there.

Sad, sad day. I hope whatever it is doesn't wipe out my tank.
