120 peninsula build

I have a love hate relationship with plumbing. Today I was hoping to have all the plumbing done. But I'm only half done for the DT, and the refugium is not plumbed at all. In retrospect I should have gone with spa flex PVC. The sump is offset from the DT, by like 3 feet. Which makes it hard to figure out how to keep a down hill run and get over and then out to the sock chamber. So I got the emergency line done no problem. I got the partial siphon done finally. It didn't come out quite how I hoped but it works. I ran out of 45 degree elbows and realized that I need a couple more unions, and some 90 degree elbows. Hopefully I will get the plumbing done this week. My sea swirl as I said before is supposed to ship out tomorrow. So once that gets here I will be able to finalize the return plumbing. I also finished the electrical work today, the electrician is coming on Tuesday to hook it up to the breaker panel. I've got three GFCI on the ceiling, above the sumo area, and three GFCI, in the access panel behind the DT. They will be in separate breakers, so that if one trips the other will keep going. Photos of what I got done this weekend.

Just a question, did you dry fit before you glued?

I have done lots of plumbing and hate it as well but I always dry fit first to get it to where I want before gluing anything.

Still it looks good so far ;)

I did dry fit @Fudsey, always do. And the problem I always run into is that the pipe and the fittings never bottom out dry. Then when you glue everything changes. What I should have done was planned in more unions. I'm going to do that for the full siphon, return, and the refugium. Any other suggestions?

The only other thing I was thinking was to elevate the sump. I can't tell from the pics, but it looks like you have the sump either on the floor or close to it. Might want to put it on a stand so it's a little higher, more for an easier working height. You might also want to put something over the insulation so that some doesn't fall into the sump.

I found some small pieces of insulation in my RO/DI barrel once and I don't know where it came from as there is no insulation above it.

You can wet the pipe with a little water to get it to seat all the way, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

@Fudsey, the sump is on a stand can't tell from my recent picks. But think in the beginning I documented that, but maybe not. Anyway the top of the sump sits about 4' from the floor so it's easy to work in. The insulation is held in place with little metal rods. I'm not at all concerned about it falling. But I am concerned about moisture, and mold. I'm gonna see how it feels down there once it's wet. I have a dehumidifier in place and may cover the sump and fuge.

I know the metal rods you are talking about, Tiger's teeth. But just looking at one of your pics above I can see pieces looking ready to fall. I'm not talking about big pieces, small ones will fall off and could fall into your sump. See the circled parts of your pic. Just wanted to bring it to your attention. ;)

And your dehumidifier will be running a lot :)

Yeah, I see/know about that insulation. It will be tucked up where it belongs, things got a little disturbed while doing the rewiring, and build.

Nice work, on this form it seems like you all have very understanding wives. ;)
Yes @sonubhai, my wife has been very understanding and supportive also. The only thing she's been in the way of is spending money. But that's a good thing. Either we would be broke, or have a huge credit card bill which would make us broke.

You could even throw up a piece of green board drywall, gypsum board, or even a piece of rubber lining just as an extra precaution of anything falling into sump.

Yes I was thinking about, even some plastic, or vapor barrier would do the trick. I'm pretty confident thought that none will fall the photo makes it look worse than it is.

Looking good dude.

Plumbing to the sump looks fine. I had considered using spa flex as well, but fortunately I had a straight shot into my sump.

Have you considered installing an exhaust vent along with the dehumidifier? Probably overkill like mine, but the peace of mind alone is worth it.

I keep the exhaust vent set at 40% and the dehumidifier at 50%. So far so good.

Yeah, I've thought about the exhaust fan. I'm gonna see how things go for now. The basement is really pretty dry. I did do a test run with the dehumidifier yesterday because I filtered a bunch of water and there was a lot of condensation on the pipes. I also spilt some water messing with my rocks. It has been a little humid and warm down there this last week, it's been hazy, hot, and humid here in Maine. At any rate the humidifier started at 85%, I set it to 50% and in about 15 minutes had already dropped the humidity to 70%. By the time I got home from work it was down to 50% and had pulled about a gallon and a half of water out of the air (and probably the floor from my spills). Anyway I will think about the exhaust fan.
