Yeah, I’ve decided to treat the tank with Chemiclean on Monday. Mondays are water change day, but this Monday I’ll dose chemiclean, and do a 20% water change on Wednesday instead.

The guy we got the coral from said the chemiclean shouldn’t impact the new coral. He also suggested I start running an air stone in the water now to make sure it is oxygenated enough for the treatment. So I put an air stone in the sump this morning and will let it run.

You could also just angle your powerhead to the surface or if you run a skimmer just keep that on.

Added the Chemiclean today. I put an air stone in the sump last week to get the O2 levels up. This morning I pointed all powerheads towards the water surface for that extra gas exchange. Hopefully this will help clear up the cyano in the next two days.

This morning makes 48 hours since adding the chemiclean. I did a 20% water change while siphoning the sand bed.

There’s still some cyano on the rocks. My hope is that it will die off soon. But, the chemiclean definitely put a dent in the cyano.

Cyano is almost completely eradicated

Also, the zoas started opening up again, which is a good sign. In a couple of weeks I’m going to remove them from the plug and attach them to a rock… if they’re still doing well.

Attached the zoa to a rock the other day. I used a bone cutter to remove the plug, but in the process, the frag disc broke apart in my hands. I also made kind of a mess with the super glue. So, the zoas were angry and stayed closed for a couple of days. They are open today. I’m looking forward to seeing how long it takes them to cover this rock.

I wasn’t planning on adding corals today, but our coral guy had some available and was willing to drop them off at the office.

All of this was done kind of quick, so a quick coral dip, and in the tank they went. I used some pieces of extra rock I had laying around to attach the GSP to their own islands.

Since I suspect the peppermint shrimp were murderous jerks, I captured them and put them in the refugium.

I went to our coral guy’s house yesterday to get a replacement hammer. One of my coworkers said there is too much green in the tank, so this time around I got a purple colored one

The coral guy also gave me two small frags as lagniappe:

Everything seems to be thriving in the tank. I've had a couple of small cyano outbreaks that cleared by themselves. I think it may be time for some more corals - I'm thinking a torch and maybe some sort of mushroom.

I was at the fish store yesterday, and saw this cool little zoa. They normally sell for $60, but since it was a small piece broken off a larger colony, he sold it to me for $30.
