15 gal overkill peninsula

Really weird when I added my fish my PH took a nose dive? Anyone have any thoughts ?
The fish are breathing in the oxygen in your water. That’s why the pH went down a little. It could also be that a lot of people were breathing in the room that the tank is in too. It’s not a huge dip though so I think everything is fine.

Phosphates spiked due to me over feeding for a couple days.

have been changing 5-10 gallons of water a day.

added GFO and Carbon to the racks on one of the chambers and water cleared up, phosphate down to healthy levels in 36 hours.

brown algae starting to form so I added a clean up crew.

7 very small blue legged hermits
7 Trochus snails
5 Nassarius snails
2 skunk cleaner shrimp
2 blood shrimp

I know that’s a lot of shrimp for a 40gallon but they are multi purpose and great scavengers.

Lesson learned… got water from my local fish store because I wanted to do a 10 gallon water change but didn’t have time to mix my own. Tested their water and salinity was at 40ppt and nitrates were at .25 I think their RO filters need to be changed and they need to mix better.

7 stage RO unit just ordered from
Bulk reef supply with a 600 watt heater and a cheap power head. Are the brute trash cans non toxic or do I need to order a higher quality mixing container ?

brute trash cans are fine. Just give them a rinse

They are perfectly fine. If you are worried, season it like you would a wok or skillet. When you go to start making RO water, fill the trash can up with your first batch of RO let it sit over night (filled with RO) then dump it,wipe it out,and start making saltwater.

This^ and sitting overnight the r.o will suck out the films and nasties.

I’m dosing Kalk and doing (4) 25% water changes a week. I have added the algae barn coralline intro every 2 weeks. Hoping to see the purple and pink stuff super fast even though I used Marco rock.

So I had a G5 XR30 and I was curious. Wow I should have dropped this on there to begin with. Also picked up a torch and 3 montipora from vivid aquariums. I’m changing out 100% of the water weekly with 4 twenty five percent changes so I could be fine.

I also could have just wasted some really nice frags.

One thing is for certain these lights look way better than my Gen 4’s. I only have them at 65%

Please keep us updated on the coralline. I’m likely going to add some purple helix to my own system in a month or two.

Added 4 LPS and a couple no to cap frags. Torches acclimated seemlessly as well as the hammer. The Montipora went into show should have got some encrusted ones instead of freshly clipped. Starting to get some polyp extension though. Also need to go thru a crash course in iPhone photography lol.
