Some type of bristleworm. Dump it.

Ok . I was always told that bristle worms are bad for your corals. Guess I was wrong .

I have thousands of bristleworms in my tank for the last 6 years. No issues.

This giant one is not the same species as the others. It seems to be the only one that I’ve ever found of its kind.

He’s to big to leave alone in your tank now, he’s probably killing inverts by now, or at least trying too! You need a wrasse! You’ll never see them get to that size again!

Only thing holding me back from getting a wrasse is that I have a 5 year old Mandarin that I don’t want anything to happen to.

Granted he eats pellets but I’ve heard horror stories of wrasses pecking Mandarins eyeballs out because they are competition for pods.

Not sure how much that is true....

I have 5 wrasse and 2 mandarins for the last 2 years. No issue with them at all.

Since it is already that large and you have not added anything on which it could have hitchhiked into your tank recently......well then you have your answer. Has it been a model citizen of has there been some night time pillaging going on? I don't kill anything that has not earned it. Let us know the outcome.

It all depends on how successful your tank has been. If everything is great then judging by his size he was probably part of that success.
A worm that size is removing a serious amount of uneaten food and detritus.
