150g Treasure Tank

It's too early to be up, but I'm excited! I get to put a test fish in today! Hopefully it doesn't become a test sacrifice...I'm praying that I have not contaminated the reef with the velvet parasite. Guess I'll know soon enough.

How'd the test fish go?!

I'm watching and waiting, rather nervously...velvet has been known to take six weeks to show up, so until those six weeks have passed I'm gonna be a nervous wreck. x.x

I put the two adult female mollies and the single first baby I got from them in. So far they're okay, no sign of velvet or other illness so far. They're definitely nervous (can't blame them, as they've never seen a reef before) and silly Surprise got herself into the overflow. Had to fish her out. XP They also need to get used to the current. I wish I had been able to keep my smallest powerhead to do that in the QT, but whatever. Gotta work with what I've got. Looks like they're going to settle in fine, though, given time; they're already eating what gets close enough to their "safe spot" and occasionally nibble the rocks, and fins are all up. Good signs.

Well, I just found Surprise in the filter sock. She's going back in the quarantine before she gets herself killed.

Ugggh so much of me wants to hurry it up and put everyone in the DT now.
My better sense says heck no, but I'm battling my emotions and impulsiveness here XDD

Know the feeling - after what seems like forever, my own fallow period will come to an end next week.

Wonder if a formalin dip between your QT and display might help ease your mind about velvet? I haven't (yet!) had the "pleasure" of making velvet's acquaintance, and hope I never do!

Best wishes for a smooth transition headed your way . . .

I guess I'm the other way. My fallow period went from the end of Dec 2015 until the end of March 2016 and for the most part I was happy with it. My inverts kept me happy. I watched crabs grow, macro algae grow, go sexual, kill each other off and regrow.

I almost kept the tank fallow indefinitely! Heck the fish i have now are so reclusive people don't even know I keep fish in the tank half the time!

Haha thanks, guys. We had a several-hour power outage this morning, and knowing that the QT was overstocked, I had to make a decision to either leave them all in and hope they survived, or lighten the load so they didn't have oxygen troubles as quickly. I opted to put one male molly and the hawkfish into the DT with the female mollies. Everyone survived the blackout. I am, however, thinking that I really need to buy a backup power source before I stock the DT further. Even this made me nervous.

@Maritimer it's not bringing velvet into the DT that I'm afraid of. It's whether I might already have it in there from shared equipment, such as my net. All my fish are cured, thankfully, but I'm scared to death they'll catch it from remnants in the DT.

So now it's a full day in the DT. How's it looking?

Looking good. The male molly took a dive for the rockwork when I turned the light on this morning and hurt himself, though. Praying it heals on its own.

They are, for sure.
He looks a lot better today. The red spots are all but gone, and his dorsal fin is mostly up, so I am pretty sure he'll make a full recovery.

In other good news, all the fish in the DT are settling in and swimming around the tank like normal for the most part (minus rest sessions) as opposed to just sitting in a corner or close to the side. They're starting to get comfortable and acclimating to the stronger current nicely.

My tank's still above what my red sea test kit reads. I'll try it with the high-range adjustment tomorrow. Just too tired and hurting too badly tonight.

Er, I meant the DT's nitrate seems to have spiked and is above what the normal red sea test reads. Gonna do a high-range tonight if I have it in me.

So the male creamsicle molly seems to have healed nicely, and the black female looks about ready to pop yet again XD I've taken the filter sock out temporarily, 1 because I'm in too much pain to handwash them and 2 because if any babies end up in the overflow I want them to end up in the sump, not the sock.

Everyone seems healthy, but the QT is starting to look very brown again, despite my best efforts. I'm probably going to move the black male tomorrow to the DT and start prep to move the fry to the 10g. I know it will get yucky faster, but one bucket of water = 50% change. It'll be easier on me.

I am officially engaged to Monica Reves (Minerva_Valdis, here on the forums)!!
I love her so much...and she treats me like gold (or a better comparison for us fish geeks, a peppermint angelfish.)
I swear to always treat her the same. My amazing girl <3

OK...sorry, I haven't been updating because I've been in a lot of pain lately. It's getting better, though.
In any case...got lightly-used miracle mud from Dad...it's in the sump now...I did it 'wrong' and got a ton of silt in the tank and unfortunately the silt is all on the top of the mud, but I figure it's better than nothing.

All my fish are back in except the young mollies. Also, two molly pregnancies with no offspring that I could find o_O I think either the hawkfish or the aiptasia ate them. Oh, right. The aiptasia is still taking over. I don't think my berghia survived, so I'll have to try another batch....

I cannot currently test my water because I'm without a well-marked syringe...I think Mom may have swiped it thinking it was hers....

On a brighter note, no sign of ich or velvet anymore n_n

I'm happy you're feeling a bit better.

I have mineral mud in one tank and mud from florida pets in the other. Currently the mineral mud has been disturbed by an unseen force and i can barely see a thing in it... and nothing is clearing it up.

I love mud in tanks though and it helps alot especially since i have macro algae.

Molly fry are delicious says my sandfish. Hopefully the hawkfish was able to get a few in for its tummy.

Aiptasia is the worse. I keep "killing" mine and they keep coming back. My girlfriend wants me to kill them again before my molly spits out more babies.
