I have just built a stand for my wife. She has a build thread on here but I wanted to get your opinions on the stand. The stand is for a 180 gallon tank. The tank measures 4'x4'x18". The stand was made with 6x6 posts that I notched out for the 2x6 cross beams. The joist's are 2x6 that are held up by joist hanger's that hang on the beams. My thought process for the stand was to make sure all the weight transferred to the 6x6's.

I did notch out the bottom of the post's for 2x4's that are really only there for nailing on the 1/4 skin. I made the doors out of mdf and ply. Let me know what you think and please ask any questions that you may have. This is the 2nd stand I have built for her.

It is nice in the afternoon, a little bright in the morning. But we also have 4 giesemann vervve’s going up as well

Nice work! What kind of sump are your going to have in the basement? What kind of pump are you using for a return? I have a 180 reef plumbed to the basement. But... I am running a lot more plumbing than you are with on corner overflow.

Please continue to share progress. That is going to be pretty sweet!

I should have you build my next stand. That could hold a tank.

Looks awesome. Update those pix as you go.

That looks amazing! the only thing that I noticed that was you built it over a floor vent, did you move the vent so that the temperature of the tank and room won't be affected?

I am actually going to run a small bit of havoc and have that vent pump out the bottom of the bench. I just haven’t done it yet, lol. We are waiting on a new overflow and top for the tank so I have some time before we put water in.

You could also put a bottom in your stand on top of the 2x4s, the existing register would pressurize the space inside and you could put a 2x10 toe kick register under each door opening

That’s a great idea but I have that quarter round trimming out the bottom. There is a 1/4” ply over the 2x6 joists and a 1/2” insulation board on top of that to help with the level of the tank.

Oh, and the piece under the doors is only about an inch.

It looked like there was more space under the doors in the picture. If you do end up needing any advice on how to do the ductwork when you're ready I'd be glad to help, I've been in the Hvac business for the last 18 years. Your project is looking great!

Well, it is finished! So happy but still a lot of work left to do. We have to setup the fish room downstairs and plumb everything. New blinds are in the way and we are going to hang the lights soon.

Looks awesome.
You built that in less time then it just took me to redo a sump only under my 180

Took about two weeks but about 30 total hours spent working on it.

It’s not completely done as there are a few trim pieces to go up around the tank but we still have to move the tank in and out.

I was thinking that I could just cut a hole for the register under the big bench out of the stand to vent it. Would that work as efficiently as running hvac?

You wouldn't get very good airflow out of it, the entire space inside the cabinet would be too large to pressurize and get any type of airflow from the vent. It would be best to run a duct, can you tell what size duct is attached to that register from underneath? Possibly a 6" round duct?

Well, we did some work today. Installed the lights and drilled the holes for the overflow. We also got our new blinds put up which I think look a lot better. I have to build a cabinet above the windows for the power supplies tomorrow because the cords aren’t long enough.
