180g enough for this many tangs?

No I am a human, Sorry, my immaturity is taking over me
Well trillions is an understatement. It is way over that. PETA is a group that could ruin this industry/hobby.

I am not a PETA then. Yes, I do agree that animals are taken from their home, but tank bred animals are taking over the market, also, animals can still thrive.

I am so sorry for taking over this thread, everyone please answer the original thread question.

btw ,,,
hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....
being sincere not sarcastic ;)

So coming from a 180 gallon to a 400 I would say that is to many. In my 180 I was able to keep a yellow tang, regal and a blue eyed kole tang. Any others where bullied by the 3 others. The regal was small but he is very large and he was too small. I like going by it needs at least 6 feet to dart and 2x the body length to turn. He rules my tank now and Is like a race horse all day long. Long term I would stick to 12” and under at the max for a 180. Nobody liked Harry Potter in the broom closet is what my lfs says.

Yeah I kinda thought that but wasn't sure. I am questioning it because I wasn't sure about the sailfin and the desjardini mainly. Would u have rathered I didn't ask and just did it because I was going to but I the best thing was to get other people's opinions.

Has I said I'm not here to tell you yes or no. I was just trying to paint a picture of a empty tank at 180 gallons vs one with rock, substrate, and grown corals if it is a reef. Fish only is a bit different but somewhat the same. Some of the tangs you listed get BIG and can be aggressive towards others. Space triggers aggression.

So again - I am not going to judge because that isn't A cool and B not my style. I just wanted to paint that picture in case it isn't something you considered. If you considered it then I tap out at this point :) As dumb as it may sound you could always print out a fish of the respected "max" size and tape it on your aquarium - it really does give an odd sense of space used.

All the best to you and yours.

@Royalreef22, have you gotten an answer that satisfies you yet? I personally have a 300 with 4 tangs 2 of which are on the large side, and I think that's pushing the limit. I personally think that you're going to run into a lot of aggression and a tank full of stressed fish.

I say, if you already have your mind made up, then why not do it right and get a 400+ gallon tank and set yourself up for success? Why limit yourself right out the gate? Sounds like you're in the planning stages, what better time to do it right.

Instead of asking, "can all these tangs fit into my tiny tank?", ask, "What's the appropriate size tank required to keep these fish?"

like almond joy and mounds ;)

Really? I’m surprised something that small would even be suggested. If that was in feet, it would be okay for one tang but preferably in meters.

You're so funny. 96x 36 meter tank. I was gonna do that until your suggestion, now I'm going to just put a ownership sign on the atlantic and call it a day.

Individually right? Not mass mute for everyone? Because I can mute people but that done prevent the thead from being stoped
It’s been a while since I was in this hobby, and things have certainly changed...that being said, only you can decide what is best in terms of tank to fish ratio; up until a certain point! If they are small enough, they will flourish; up to a certain point! But once that threshold is encroached, you will need to (re)match that same ratio....I only have a 150-160 gallon and will house a yellow, Red Sea, yellow belly blue, and a kole tang in This system until I am ready to upgrade to my tank of approximately 550 gallons...

Your other alternative is to raise your fish in a rational environment, and if/when they get close to the size, which will contribute to their happiness, trade them in and start again...it’s as simple as that! House your animals with care and love, and that will come back to you in the next generation:).

So I currently have a 70g tank with a sailfin and I am upgrading to a 180g. I am keeping the sailfin and want to add a blue tang, blonde naso, and either a LARGE Desjardins from a friend or a yellow tang, and one or two brisletooth tangs. Is this to many? How long do I have to wait to add all of them? If I add my sailfin sooner than add the rest all at once is that ok?

Thank you in advance!
I had/‘have a lot more tangs than that in my S650 which is just under 180 usg, and they are all fine.

I also have a lot more other fish in there, angels, triggers etc.

Within reason you can add a lot of fish, but you need to make sure the system can cope with the export of nutrients from the system otherwise you will have issues. It’s important to keep phosphate locked down especially.

I would not put a full size Desjardini Sailfin or Indo-Pacific Sailfin in anything shorter than a a 10’ tank.

One Yellow Tang could work as your Zebrasoma. And then I’d do one Bristletooth Tang like a Tomini, Squaretail, Yellow Eye Kole or White Tail.

And finally maybe a smaller Acanthurus Tang like a Lemonpeel Mimic, Eibli Mimic. Just my thoughts.
