I have a hygger 16w bar light and I don't think those are good for coral? I want to start putting coral into my tank. Softies only. Is a NICREW light okay to use? I'm confused what watt to go with. They have 30, 50, 100, and 150.

You would want at least a single 50w hyperreef or two 30w if only softies. This is assuming you are using the mounting arm.

Also slightly related. I have a yellow clown goby (and chalk bass) on order but I hear clown gobies can make corals unhappy. Would y'all advise to cancel the clown goby order? I'm looking at getting a candy corn clove and Rhodactis to start off with.

I've never heard that before. I wouldn't worry. They naturally live in some sps colonies but you should't have anything to worry about.

The clown gobies are lazy and like to just lay on things and that can annoy sps corals. They also like to lay eggs on corals. But seeing as you won't have a mating pair that won't be a problem. The laying around on softie frags shouldn't be a problem either. Clownfish sometimes host toadstools and things without any problems a clown goby should be fine.

Nope. No pair. That's good to hear. I love the little guys. I do have two clownfish and I'm not worried about them.

Clownfish aren't as lazy as the clowm gobies but they can be just as destructive to corals they want to host so if you're not worried about them I wouldn't worry about the goby. Also sidebar I have a nicrew light I use for my coral quarantine and it grows softies perfectly and low light LPS.

I won't worry about the goby then! I forgot I wanted to ask, what light setting do you use for your nicrew?

They will rest on lps and soft coral and perch in places but shouldn't bother anything imo.
D
I love that they perch out in the open. Such nice little fish. I'm not too worried about it anymore. Thanks for helping my anxieties. Whenever I add anything new I get stressed out hoping they will all play nice.

Depends which nicrew light you get. I run it blue and white 100% but that depends on the wattage you get. I think the par on the 30watt is like 50 at about 24" down from the light. If you go more watts I would turn it down.

Thanks for the reply. I got the 50 watt. It's really bright on full blast so I turned it down. I'm getting the timer tomorrow so I can program it more precisely.
